Dear All
I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I am trying to find information from the following US Army formations :
- XIX Corps
- 2nd Armo(u)red Division
- 30 th Infantry Division
during their time near Hasselt/Albert Canal in Belgium in september 1944.
I am especially looking for the sections of the War Diary dealing with Intelligence on/about the enemy. forces oppositie the US formation . Being far more familiar with the other allied armies I do not know what section of a (divisional or other staff) wrote reports which in other other armies are called Intelligence Summaries.
I am hoping to fin more information via these US army papers on the German forces in this sector of the front. I also hope that, as per other allied armies, information can be found regarding POW made from enemy forcers divided by unit.
I have tried the NARA website , but I am at a loss how to find the things I would like to see.
Hoping anyone can help me,
Greetings and best regards
Nico

You are looking for the daily G-2 reports of these units.
Try your luck with US 1st Infantry Division records. This unit received copies of G-2 from many other units, and you might find those of your units.
It's here, under 301-2.2 G2 Journal and File: https://firstdivisionmuseum.nmtvault.co ... esults.jsp

I recall there was a transcribed XIX corps G-2 periodic report (thats what you are looking for) for September online, but I have to find the link. Go ahead an PM me.
XIX was pretty good at braking down the POW list by unit, at least for that time.

There are actually a number of possibilities for what you need in the XIX Corps G-2 series.
219-2, G-2 After Action Reports, 1 June 44-9 May 45, Box 4371
219-2.1, G-2 Periodic Reports, July 1944-May 1945, Box 4372
219-2.2, G-2 Journal & File, 13 June 44-9 May 45, Boxes 4376 and 4377
XIX Corps was very good at recording PW numbers by unit identification on a 10-day basis. I have not pulled the September figures, but they should probably be in the Periodic Reports.
