Unit research

Where should I turn to if I'm looking for information about a certain late war unit like Panzerjagd-Brigade Weichsel? I know I can't hope to find too much but what can I find about a late war unit like this? What information do I need to have when I writ to the archive? Any help with this is appreciated.

Best regards/ Daniel

Hello.
I cant tell you where to find the info you are looking for.
But ALL archives have a problem when they got a letter starting with "I want to know all about....."
Add all info you have to can easy the job for the archivist, timeframe is important, if you look for a unit from 1945, tell them.
Reference to books etc. To make it short, all info does help. You might think its not important to add, but it might be that small thing that solve the puzzle.
If you can, add your phonenumber or mailadress, and tell them that you can be contacted if needed.
If you are going to use it in a book, or some other serious work, tell!!
If you just want to the knowledge for the fun of it, dont tell!!

When it comes to unit histories or unit war diaries they might turn up where you least expect it. Try Bundesarchiv initially, that's my suggestion.

Daniel,

maybe you can try this link for some basic initial info on Weichsel:
members.tripod.com/~Sturmvogel/pzjgabt.htm

I'm having trouble getting it on screen, but I think this is due to my computer.

Good luck
