I received informations about my grandfather today!

Post by Ryan94 » 24 Nov 2004 16:50

Hi guys,

today I got the Informations of the german department I spoken about in the 6.-SS board.
It's not much, but now I know, where Willi fought in 1945, in wich unit he was exactly and where he was in war captivity.
So let me begin:

--Willi Ruschin--
-Dog Tag ID Number: -1069- 5./A.E.R. (can anyone tell me, what it means?)
-Joined the Waffen-SS: 01.03.1942
-notification from the 11.09.42: SS-Artillerie-Ersatz-Regiment München
-rank in Waffen-SS: Schütze/Gefreiter

"From 1942 to february 1945 there aren't furhter messages about his duty."

-notification from the 27.03.45: 6- SS Gebirgsdivision NORD
(Stabsbatterie SS-Gebirgs-Artillerie-Regiment 6)
-place of duty during '45: -jan/feb: Landau, Lothringen
-march: Trier, Mosel

-War captivity: 27.03.1945 (american)
-american war capticity in: Bad Kreuznach (Germany)
-transfered to french captivity: 14.03.1946
-fled from war capt.: 25.06.1948
-french war capticity in: -Meile le kamm
-Bory
-Lyon
-Lenz (to 10.08.48 )
-Official date of leaving the war capt.: 10.08.48

So, that's it...

I think it's good, because now, I know ´just a bit about him for sure...
And I may can find out more about him twith the ID tag and the unit he was in. :)

Bye, David

Bonjour.

You write:
Dog Tag ID Number: -1069- 5./A.E.R. (can anyone tell me, what it means?)
-notification from the 11.09.42: SS-Artillerie-Ersatz-Regiment München
So 5./A.E.R.----> Artillerie-Ersatz-Regiment/5th Kpie

and you have to read "Kampf unter dem nordlicht. Die Geschichte der 6.SS=Gebirgs=Division Nord . Munin Verlag GMBH Osnabruck 1969

best regards

JPK

Hallo David!

JPK is quite right that you already have the definition of your Opa's Erkennungsmarke: 5./ A.E.R. = 5. Kompanie, Artillerie-Ersatz-Regiment (Waffen-SS). Below is a photo of what the disc would look like:

except, of course, the numbers would be different.

Another good book to look at is 'Seven Days in January: With the 6. SS-Mountain-Division in Operation Northwind' by Wolf T. Zoepf (Aberjona Press).
