Hmmm. The KTB entry states that the Wellington was claimed by 4. Batterie/gem.Flak-Abt. 591(v). So either the 1./NJG 1 claim is wrong, or the Flak claim is wrong, or it was a shared claim. This Flak-Abt. had at least its 3. and 4. Battr. in Holland during 1943-44 with other elements in Rotterdam. The name of the location today may be Bergeyk, which is 16 km SW of Eindhoven.

Thanks for both of those responses. Very helpful. My friend always stated there was some confusion over the claim between ground & air forces. He always maintained they were hit by Baake, but on their subsequent decent were then hit by the flak battery. He said that he was about to bail out via the bomb bay, when the explosion (flak) knocked him back into the plane before he eventually parachued out shortly after

Evidently a shared claim, then. That was a very common occurence.
