GMelinn,

Are you still getting these posts? If so, can you contact me offline? I am curious about the current state of the aircraft and where it might be seen.

Here is a feature segment on the Langhurst Stuka replica (currently residing in Maine). The air-to-air shots of the plane in flight really show off how closely it resembles the lines of the original.

I only recently learned that Luftwaffe reenactor Jeff Willoughby of Pennsylvania is working on a 5/8-scale Stuka replica (a bit smaller than the Langhurst Stuka). Here is a link to his excellent website. Lots of photos of the plane under construction and detailed comments on the building materials and methods he is using. Looks like a first-rate effort.

Does anyone know about another replica Stuka being built in Serbia? I found a brief posting online by Vaso Radic, a Serbian Air Force technician who is involved in this project. He did design work on the wings. Here is a photo of the plane under construction (taken in 2011 I think). The outer wing panels are partially skinned with sheet metal and you can just make out the tubular metal fuselage and rudder framework. I am not certain what scale this is but possibly 1/2 or 3/4 by the looks of it.

Here are a few more pics of the "Serbian Stuka", showing off the distinctive gull wing. The scale is 5/8. The engine to be installed is a ROTAX 912ULS putting out 100hp. Unlike the original Stuka, the rear gunner/radio operator seat will only face forward and have a set of dual controls. This was done for safety reasons and to maintain the aircraft's center of gravity.

The pics were taken around July 2011 so I can only imagine at what stage the plane is at now. The builders were just ready to have the wheel pants and cowling fabricated from fiberglass. I will try to find out more on this.

I have recently bought a little plastic device from Aldi which allows you to print photos from slides or film negatives. I am now retired and am consequently trawling through slides and negatives that I took in Europe from 1976 on. Re the replica Stuka on the roof of Frankfurt airport: if it's a replica, it's a bloody good one. I will post photos of other aircraft from the same rooftop shortly.
