Hi all,
I recently added this upgraded Other Ranks tunic, now configured as a flight section Oberleutnant 4 pocket tunic, and was wondering
if anyone had any ideas of the unit stamp inside the tunic, which appears to be for 'Fliegerkommando Berlin' and dated 1936, and this
is the unit that I am interested in finding out some more information if possible .....
Re the tunic, the insignia is certainly wartime applied, but I think the loops may be added post-war, or at least some of them have been
'pimped up' a bit, and are easy enough to remove, but won't do this until I have been able to find our for sure if they have been post-war
added....
Thanks in advance,
Cheers
Bob
Luftwaffe unit information request
Re: Luftwaffe unit information request
It appears that the stamp is for "Flieger-Kommando-Battalion"
I found this on the web with similar stamps, regarding a flight suit...

Re: Luftwaffe unit information request
Hello Bob -
I went through all of my documentation and only found a single reference to a “Fliegerkommando Berlin”:
RICHTER, Gerhard. ("Tobias") (DOB: 21.11.13 in Nieder-Gebra/ Thuringen). (R). 09.04.34 entered the Heer then moved to the Luftwaffe in 01.11.35. 09.04.34 in 2./Pionier-Bataillon 1 Konigsberg (to 09.10.34). 01.10.34 1./Pionier-Bataillon 1 Konigsberg (to 31.10.35). 21.10.35 promo to Oberfahnrich. 01.11.35 trf to an unspecified Fliegerschule (to 15.07.36). 20.04.36 promo to Lt. 16.07.36 trf to an unspecified Fliegerschule. (to 01.11.36). 02.11.36 in Fliegerkommando Berlin (to 31.01.37). 01.02.37 trf to III./LG.
Since I should have dozens of references to it if it had existed under this name, I was perplexed so I also tried “Fl.Kdo. Berlin”, “Flak-Kdo. Berlin” and “Flug-Kdo. Berlin”. The only hit was on the last of these but it was not formed until August 1939.
I suspect “Fliegerkommando Berlin” might have been an a.k.a. or unofficial name for:
Luftkreis 2
(Air Force District or Service Area)
Kommandierender General und Befehlshaber:
Gen.d.Flieger Leonard Kaupisch (1 Apr 34 - 31 Oct 37)
Gen.Maj. Alfred Keller (1 Nov 37 - 4 Feb 38)
Formation and History. (Apr 34 - Feb 38)
Formed 1 April 1934 in Berlin as Luftkreiskommando II. Subordinated all flying and Flak units stationed in Luftgau II (Pomerania) and Luftgau III (Brandenburg). Designation changed to Luftkreis 2 on 12 Oct 37. Together with Luftkreis 3, used to form Luftwaffengruppenkommando 1 on 4 Feb 38.

That is, if it did in fact exist at all.
