Looking for a 1942 Luftwaffe Airfield

Hello to all. I am looking for the following site german Airfield.

Ochotschewka. I try to locate it but cannot find any detailed area info. Was it near Brjansk ? 1942 the Bau-Pionier-Bataillon 419 was in the area of Ochotschewka (foto proof). I found a hint, that a Steam Engine from the German Railway Nummer „99021“ in a narrow gauge track system, was transferred to line Ochotschewka – Kolpiny.
Kolpiny is south of Brjansk. There is a Railway line nearby. I found on a Luftwaffe 1942 map the following spot. Any hint or validation ? is it the right area? Kolpiny (34.139800 °E 52.362900 °N) (454km)
the airfield is named in this source:
Anlagen zum Kriegstagebuch Nr. 3
1942-1943
RL 23/26
Luftwaffenbau-Regiment 6/XI
Bd.: 1
Enthält u.a.:
Lageplan der Flugplätze Ponyri, Swoboda und Ochotschewka
thanks in advance

No, sorry, it's not that area. It's NE of Kursk.

Ochotschewka, Okhochevka or Охочевка, where train line to Kolpny starts is here: 51.886449, 36.733625.
Ochotschewka

Now Kolpny or Колпны, here: 52.223177, 37.022571
So, it's not Kolpiny, but Kolpny, Orlovskaya oblast', Russia, 303410

Excellent hint with that rail line, otherwise would be quite difficult to find....

German 1:300000 map is here: Staryj Oskol (7.2MB file), but it's not very detailed. You may need 1:50000 or even 1:25000 map to find exact location of the airfield.

Actually, are you sure that railroad was near Ochotschewka airfield? There are several villages called Ochotschewka in Russia... Perhaps it's not this one? Should airfields Ponyri, Swoboda be in the same area?

Hi
thank you very much indeed! to your question, I have a picture from 1942 showing members of the 419. Bau Pionier Bataillon. On the backside of the foto is handwritten Ochotschewka. The Route for the Bataillon was April 1942 from Warka Poland to May 1942 to Kursk and later to woronesh to the second Army in June 1942 Are there more Ochotschewka´s in the kursk area ? So it looks at the moment, that the Bataillon was there en route or at a rest in the area..

The below is from: SU Fliegertruppe - Übersichtsliste der Flugplätze. Stand: September 1943. Herausgegeben vom Luftwaffen-Führungsstab Ic/IV.

Ochotschewka (RUSS) (e. Okhochevka) ( ? )
General: not located but thought to be in the Kursk area or possibly in Ukraine. This is not listed in the source directory so it is 99% certain that no airfield or airstrip was ever established here and completed. Alternately, it might have ultimately been listed under a different name.

Ponyri (RUSS) (e. Ponyri) (ZNr. 10-2038) (52 19 N – 36 17 E)
General: field airstrip (Feldflugplatz) in W Russia 74 km S of Orel and 67 km N of Kursk. Measured 900 x 910 meters (985 x 995 yards).

Swoboda (RUSS) (e. Svoboda) (ZNr. 10-7066) (c.51 56 N – 36 20 E)
General: field airstrip (Feldflugplatz) in W Russia 35 km NNE of Kursk and just west of the railway line between the villages of Tazovo and Budanovka.

Thanks Larry.

Both Ponyri and Swoboda seem to be close to railway line and not too far from Kursk.
There are two villages called Ochotschewka in the Kursk area. One we identified earlier is right on railway line NE of Kursk, second SW of Kursk, not too far from another railway line. So we can't be really sure...

If I had to guess, Greg, it would be the one SW of Kursk. The Luftwaffe almost always built their airstrips adjacent to or close to a railway line for supply purposes, especially in countries with poor roads.

Thanks for spotting those.

BTW, you are very, very adept with WWII Eastern Front maps and this leads me to ask a question: have you ever seen or heard reference to the Luftwaffe's Flugplatzatlas, which was a limited distribution publication of Luftwaffen-Führungsstab Ic? There was a March 1942 edition and then another in 1944. It must have been in the form of a 3-ring binder because updated sheets were constantly being issued for it. And there may even have been a separate one for each country. It gave specifics for each airfield along with a sketch of its layout. I have seen separate sheets or pages for airfields in North Africa but only references to such for the airfields in the USSR.

TIA,

Larry

A little more on this somewhat elusive airfield:

Ochotschewka (RUSS) (a.k.a. Okhochevka) (no ZNr. listed) (c. 51 50 N – 36 38 E)
General: field airstrip (Feldflugplatz) in W Russia 37 km ENE of Kursk. History: laid out by the Germans in late spring 1942 in preparation for the June 1942 summer campaign and drive eastward toward Voronezh and then Stalingrad. Surface and Dimensions: natural surface of unstated dimensions. Infrastructure: none specific to the airstrip. Dispersal: no details found.
Remarks:
Jun-Jul 42: the presence here of the Ju 87s together with the DFS gliders suggests a towing mission for the Stukas.
Operational Units: 1. DFS 230 Staffel d.Lw. (VIII. Fliegerkorps) (Jun-Jul 42); III./St.G. 2 (Jul 42).
Station Commands: none identified.
Station Units (on various dates – not complete): none identified.
