Fliegerhorst-Kommandantur E(v) or A(o)
Fliegerhorst-Kommandantur E(v) or A(o)
Hello,
Is anyone able to explain me the meaning of the E, the A, the (v) and the (o) for a Fliegerhorst-Kommandantur?
And also what is exactly the purpose of a Fliegerhorst unit?
I guess it was some kind of support unit manning an airfield with every kind of specialists (mechanical, cooks, signal guys, etc.) but I'm not sure of what it was exactly.
Thank you for your help.
Regards,
CNE503

Fliegerhorstkommandantur E: Operational Airfield Command (reduced services for forward airfields)
Fliegerhorstkommandantur E(v): Operational Airfield Command (transferrable)
Fliegerhorstkommandantur A: Airfield Command (full services for rear areas and for controlling several satellite airfields)

Larry,
That's excellent, thank you very much.
An answer leading often to new questions, do you know what the letter E, A, (v) and (o) means in German?

Re: Fliegerhorst-Kommandantur E(v) or A(o)
CNE503 -
E = Einsatz (Einsatzhafen/Einsatzplatz, i.e., airfield for Operational Employment)
A = Fliegerhorst of the First Order ("A" was used to rank the largest of the Fliegerhorstkommandanturen and does not represent a German word beginning with the letter "A")
(v) - verlegbar
(o) = ortsfest
