Regional Airfield Command
A HQ and staff of 40 to 45 officers and men that exercised command authority over 3 to 5 airfield commands (Fliegerhorstkommandanturen). The abbreviation for Kdo.d.Flughafenbereich was Koflug. Almost always commanded by a Luftwaffe Oberst or Generalmajor.

One question: what were the tasks of the Kommandos Flughafenbereich? Did they have administrative tasks, or operative tasks?
In particular, I see that the Koflug 9/VII exerced his autorithy also over the Fliegerhorst Kommandantur E32/IV in Monterotondo. My questions:
- Which airports were under command / responsability of the Fliegerhorst Kommandantur E32/IV? Maybe Marcigliana and/or Aeroporto dell'Urbe in Rom?
- Which were the tasks of a Fliegerhorst Kommandantur? i guess they did not have any operational tasks, but not sure about that.

Thanks in advance for any help

It would take me a couple of hours to lay all of that out for you. Here is a book that will answer all of your questions:

Mattiello, Gianfranco. Fliegerhorstkommandanturen und Flugplätze der deutschen Luftwaffe 1935-1945. Osnabrück: Biblio Verlag, 2000. Pb (oversize). 529p. Glossary of abbreviations. Appendix. Index.

Hi Larry,

thanks for the info! Sorry the late feedback but unfortunately I cannot check the forum every day.

Just some small additional info:
. Major Walgenbach was wounded on the 6th of June while, under attack from a Jabo, he jumped out from the car and fell in a rocky ravine.
- while in Perugia, on the 6th of June 1944 the unit took responsability over the "Flugplätze" of Foiano and Brolio.

Regards

Rudi
