OK, this is a Fieseler Storch, but can anyone tell me what the markings "WL-IAWF" indicate? Is it as simple as "Wehrmacht Luftwaffe" and the individual code? With no visible markings except for the swastika and a symbol for some unit on the louvre, what could this aircraft have been used for, as I guess national markings would indicate frontline use?

How can you tell it's WL-IAWF? I can't see much at all.

It's across the wing, and visible on the photo I own. It's also on the side on the fuselage, but there it's much harder to see.

Quoted from http://www.warbirdsresourcegroup.org/LRG/markings.html

Luftwaffe aircraft engaged in second line duties such as training, communications, ambulance, transport etc, used civil registrations. In January 1939 the D prefix was deleted and substituted by the WL for Wehrmacht Luft to show military ownership. An example is WL-A+HAN, an He 59B-2 used in the ambulance role. Note that in this case the + is not a Balkenkreuz but a Red Cross on a circular White background. The exception to this were those prototype aircraft which retained full civilian registration as well as the Hakenkreuz.

Thanks for your answer, von thoma

Do you have any wartime image of an armed L2D ?

Hello Sturm78 ;

I only saw armed versions on profiles of drawings

how do you identify an A-4 here? Long wingspan may also be an A-5 and one can't really see the engines to identify the Jumo 211J.
