Some time ago , well quite some time ago , i read the book "I flew for the Furher " by Heinz Knocke. I still have it and there might well be pictures of his rudder markings but one thing that sticks in my mind is the number of times he was shot down. If i recall correctly he talks of flying off in his nice new shiny Gustav in the morning and walking back to the airfield later in the day. Probably not a isolated case and presumably others lost their aircraft but lived to carry on . Which is a rambling way of asking if replacement aircraft would ( routinely?) have their rudders repainted to how the previous one had been decorated?
