III./JG52 in Greece

#1

Post by CNE503 » 17 Sep 2020, 12:18

Hello,

I found that this squadron was deployed in southern Greece (Molaoi airfield) on May 25th, 1941 to support operations in Crete.
I also read that it was sent back in Romania, on Bucarest-Pipera airfield, in June 1941, where it was transformed on Bf 109F. It was then deployed on Mizil airfield on June 20th, 1941 to participate to the air defense of Romania after the launch of "Barbarossa".

Considering that operations in Crete ended off around June 1st, 1941 and that a squadron needs several days to train on new aircrafts, does anyone know exactly when the squadron came back from Greece to Bucarest?

Thank you!
Regards,

Hi,

III./J.G. 52 flew a reconnaissance mission on 4 June 1941 between Crete and Africa, so its transfer must have been after that.

Cheers,
Andrew A.

Hello!

III./J.G. 52 returned to Bukarest-Pipera on 12th June 1941 before moving to Mizil on the 21st (7./J.G. 52 remained at Pipera until the 27th when it transfered to Mamaia).

It appears that III./JG52 destroyed 35 Soviet aircrafts between June 22nd and June 26th, 1941 (12 on June 24th, 5 on June 25th and 18 on June 26th). Does anyone know what squadrons were involved?
