Were the Germans aware of the Gloster Meteor jet fighter and, if so, what did they know?
For instance, were they ever aware that the Meteor was deployed in the Low Countries in 1945?
Many thanks,
Sid

Re: Were the Germans aware of the Gloster Meteor jet fighter and, if so, what did they know?
As they were only used against V-1s over Kent initially, and that what was going on in England was mostly unknown to the Germans, it most probably would only have been when they deployed Meteor F.3s to the continent that the Germans discovered them. Meteors began defending air bases on Jan 20th 1945, so any attacking German aircraft that returned to their base may have reported them. At this stage Meteors were forbidden to overfly the front. Sometime in March, this restriction was lifted and Meteors were doing armed reconnaissance, so the Germans would definitely have known about them then.
In general, the Germans knew about pre-war British jet development, so they would probably have assumed that jets would turn up at some stage.
