Hello all,
Any idea when the Fw-189 was made operational? I've seen March, April, and August 1941, but I can't determine the accuracy of these months. I believe these planes were first used during Barbarossa with a few Reconnaissamce Groups, perhaps 31st and 14th after giving up their Hs-126s.
Thanks
Dave

Re: Fw-189 first fielded
The Fw 189 entered service in the fall of 1940 (see the book German Aircraft of World War II by J.R. Smith and Antony L. Kay), so March or April 1941 could be accurate.drhiggins wrote: ↑29 Jul 2021, 07:13Hello all,

In E R Hooton's 'Eagle in Flames' the Appendices contain Luftwaffe Orbats that have information on the equipment of units, for 'Barbarossa' on 22nd June 1941 the following is relevant: It appears only one unit had FW189.

By the 27th July 1942 rather more units are equipped with the Fw 189: Mike

Thank you, Mike. That was very helpful- and thoughtful. Every so often I hit a rut in my research. Much appreciated.
All the best,
