Hello
Actually I make research to know the fate of the first husband to my grandmother. According to information of the Deutsche Rote Kreuz (Munchen-Germany) and Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge, he was reported missing on January 1, 1945 meadows from Breslau.
According to information of the WAST, it was affected on January 1, 1944 in the 6. (Luftnachrichten-ersatz) Kompanie/Luftgau-Nachrichten-Regiment 11.
Would you have information on the company or the regiment between January 1, 1944 and January 1, 1945 ? or references to advise me ?
Thanks for your help.

Re: Luftgau-Nachrichten-Regiment 11 info request
Hello Yuri,
My grand-father (also a Malgré-Nous) was affected at Ers 6 Luftgau Nachrichiten Regiment 11 on the 1st of December 1943. His number was 916. Have you found anything about this kompanie?
I have a photo of a group of soldier. Could it be the emblem of the Luftwaffe on some of the hat? I'm not even sure if I recognize my grand-father to be honest. The faces are not very clear. Anyway, do I have a picture of your grandmother's husband? Can you identify him on the photo?

Annick

6.(Ers.)/Luftgau-Nachrichten-Rgt. 11 was located in Heidenau (near Harburg on the south side of Hamburg) from mid-1943 to at least fall (autumn) 1944 and perhaps into 1945. The replacements were there for only a few weeks before they were assigned to one of the other companies (Kompanien) of Luftgau-Nachr.Rgt. 11, of which there were a total of 23 (numbered 1. - 23.).

Hi Larry,
Thanks for your reply - I only saw it last night. When you talk about replacement, you mean that my grandfather who arrived there late 1943 would have been a replacement before going somewhere else? That because he had a number above 20, it means that he didn't stay there. I assume that 916 was his feldpost number but maybe not.
The other thing I know from my mom (although he was her father in law) is that he escaped towards the end of war, hiding in trains and that at some point he was in Budapest and in Norway/Finland or somewhere like that.

1) 6.(Ers.)/Luftgau-Nachrichten-Rgt. 11 did not have a Feldpostnummer (FpN) because it was a replacement unit that was stationary in Germany. Units of that sort could use open addresses for their mail. My best guess is that "916" was his dog tag number:
Erkennungsmarke. This was the standard-issue German military identification tag, often called a “dog tag”. The Erkennungsmarke was instituted and first issued in August of 1939 to all members of the German Wehrmacht. The number, "916", means he was the 916th soldier entered in the Stammrolle (unit roll/register of personnel) of 6.(Ers.)/Luftgau-Nachrichten-Rgt. 11.
2) His end-of-war train travels are meaningless without details. Luftgau-Nachrichten-Rgt. 11 operated in the Hamburg - Hannover - Bremen - Lübeck - Flensburg - Rostock - Schwerin - Perleberg - Aarhus/Dk. - Kolding/Dk. - Odense/Dk. - Viborg/Dk. area throughout the war, 1939 - 1945.

Thanks a lot for your explanation. I've asked another institution (Service Historique de la Défense) if they have infos, but I doubt it. Anyway, it's about 4 months wait.
