Where's my Meteor when I need it? (262 Photo)

Gents,

The Me 262 new build project got it's first jet airborne for a short hop recently.

Wonder if they'll put a P80 or 'Meatbox' up against it?

Enjoy, you lucky people!

AMAZING! The stormbirds.com site says they did a 30 minute flight on December 20th - 'entirely without problems' which is more than can be said for the originals. Can't wait for more pictures taken from 'the escort' provided.

Trivia: The less glamorous of the two aircraft, the Meteor, entered squadron service BEFORE the Me262 (most people think the Me262 was first).
Also, serious delay in the arrival of the first service Me262s was caused by the destruction of the original Me262 assembly-line at the Regensburg plant in an air-raid on 17 August 1943. Not many people know that either.

The 262 was a bit unreliable so I've heard, the engines needed to be completely overhauled after 25 hours and had a tendency to explode!
Seems to have been the problem with most of the last of the German kit, technically superb, but poor build quality and in service before all the bugs had been ironed out where as the Meteor wasn't so far at the cutting edge but at least wasn't a danger to the pilots that flew it! :D

Regards
