A mates Dad was an armourer throughout WWII, when he was on Typhoons one had a miss fire and all 8 rockets went off whilst taxiing. They were based on Hawkinge (or one of those Battle of Britain fighter stations). He said that one Typhoon did as much damage as the whole Luftwaffe in summer '40. It may be a slight exageration but gives an idea of their destructive power.

Paul, I think you have hit it on the head possibly. The multi use of rockets in such proportions which was stunning to anyone on the ground. Unceaseless attacks by 12-20 plus a/c hitting German armored and motor transports along narrow roads in Normandy where there was no where to hide. Pretty darn brutal !
