After seeing Strum's photos of the observation balloon I went on an inter net search for more photos of German balloons. I came across this one, an ex French Zodiac Moto-Ballon MBZ-3.

I did some more searching and from the Noon Balloon, Spring 2008 edition I discovered that the French used them for observing the advancing German army in 1940. After the fall of France the Germans took them over and used them to patrol the lines of communication in the Ukranie.http://www.naval-airships.org/resources ... /tnb77.pdf
