Post by MICHAELM82 » 27 Apr 2003, 17:55

Hi,
Looking for assistance in determining the difference between a Schlachtgeschwader, Schnellkampfgeschwader and a Sturzkampfgeschwader.
They are all listed as a ground attack wings but what is the difference between them.
Be gentle, I'm just getting started with the luftwaffe. :)
Thanks for any helpful information.
Michael

your fast bomber wing also had the Ju 88

For SG 9 which was the only unit to have the Hs 129 other SG's had a variety of a/c espeically on the Ost Front, some even had captured examples. Ju 87 D's were being slowly replaced by the Fw 190F and G some equipped with the terrible Panzerblitz anti-tank rockets. Usually the 10th staffel of a SG was equipped with the Kanonvögel Ju 87G's but also being replaced by the rocket firing Fw 190's

Given that the popular name for the Junkers Ju 87, Stuka, was the shortened form of Sturzkampf, when was the first Sturzkampfgeschwader formed?
