I ended up purchasing an unusual militaria lot at a U.S. Auction recently. I bought both an EK1 and EK2 cross along with a Death Notification card for a Feldwebel in the Luftwaffe named Hans Deffner. He evidently was a pilot, earned both the EK1, EK2, a 100 missions clasp and a Hermann Goring Silver Cup. I have attached a picture of the death notice and of the Crosses. I would very much like to get these three items framed with a Luftwaffe patch that I have already sourced and a unit emblem or patch. Anyone know how I might resource and search information on Feldwebel Deffner? It appears that he died in Italy in May 1944. Any guidance, information would be greatly appreciated. It is my intention to have these historical items framed respectfully and with reverence. Thanks in advance for any information. Evidently these items were part of an estate sale from the US GI that brought them home. I would really like to identify his unit and aircraft type.

On Axis History Forum ' The Dieter Zinke Axis Biographical Research Section ' you can try looking for information about him,
or official sites where they give information about german soldiers.

According to the date Death card it is possible that it belonged to the Nachtjagdgeschwader 2, that was deployed in Italy during 1943.

This unit operated with aircraft prepared for night hunting, as Messerschmitt Bf 110, Junkers Ju 88, Dornier Do 215 and Do 217.

# 322 No Kampfgeschwader emblem, looks like a NJ Geschwader emblem, or I./ZG 1 ( later ).
