Post by Valkarie » 19 Aug 2016 17:47

Does anyone know of a He 177 Mistel?

Reason: He 177 - not HE177

Well apparently there were different variations of Mistel with He 177, one where it would play a "parent" and another as a "child" airplane:

A knowledgeable German speaking author whom I correspond with advises me there was a plan for the He 177 to tow Do 217 aircraft in trans-Atlantic raids from Norway. Not quite the same as a true Mistel.

I have a copy of the book Heinkel He 177 Greif: Heinkel's Strategic Bomber and page 104 of the book discusses in detail the proposed Mistel scheme comprising an Fw 190 pyloned to the back of an explosive-filled He 177, but also a similarly-unrealized Mistel scheme featuring an Me 328 carried atop an explosive-filled He 177.
