Luft-Nachrichten Regiment 203 in Groningen(Holland)

#1

Post by TiesG » 07 Jan 2017, 12:39

Hello,

How come that I have found 3 Kompanien of the LN.Rgt 203 in Groningen between 1940 en 1943? When I search for the 203 I only find them being in other countrys then Holland.... The 3. 5. and 9. were here. Due to this lack on info I can't find wich radarstations they manned.

I hope someone can help me out.

Regards,

Ties

Ties -

I have just two mentions for 3./203 from the British/Allied ULTRA lists:
18.8.42: Reims.
25.6.44: noted. (This means it still existed but its location was not disclosed.)

That's all I have.

Thanks, but not in Holland. I will put the names of soldiers of these units online when I have stocked them in a Word document. I am doing that with all units that were in Groningen thanks to some very nice documents of the Lazarett in Groningen. That is one massive source of new information and odd units that were here.

Well, I have sorted everything out. Here my results:

5. Kompanie was in the province of Groningen from okt. 1941 till june 1942
8. Kompanie from april 1942 till nov./dec. 1942
3. Kompanie from may 1942 till july 1942

I have also found Gerate Kolonne Ln.Rgt 203 in april 1942.

After december 1942 no more 8. Kompanie Ln.Rgt 203 in Groningen but Fp.nr. 49654. That is the number of ''Gazelle'' in Veendam. So there might be a possibility that the 8. Kompanie was stationed at Gazelle in Veendam.

And afcourse, as promised, the names list of the Ln.Rgt. 203 just to prove this unit really was here in Groningen. Why would there else be so much of one unit in the Groningen hospital.

Good research, Ties. I especially appreciate this sort of local digging since I am one of the few Luftwaffe researchers who is more interested in the Bodenorganisation units than in the fliegende Verbände.

You asked:
And of course, as promised, the names list of the Ln.Rgt. 203 just to prove this unit really was here in Groningen. Why would there else be so much of one unit in the Groningen hospital.
Most large Luftwaffe hospitals had specializations of one kind or another and patients needing that specialized treatment were sent there from units wide and far. So it is possible that 3., 5. and 8./203 were not stationed in Groningen but rather that some of the men in those Kompanien were sent to the hospital there for some sort of specialized treatment. Some more investigating might be needed before the Groningen assumption can be accepted. Just saying.

All the units named in the lists were stationed in the province of Groningen and some at Schiermonnikoog. Later on in the war also Drenthe. Not only luftwaffe but also Heer, Marine, Polizei, Zoll etc. were in this hospital all the time. Other units that were in the Groningen hospital are all kind of SS, but that were mostly men that are born in Groningen.

When I look on ww2.dk the Ln.Rgt.203 started at 1 okt. 1942. So actually after the units were in Groningen. So my guess is that untill now the history of the 203 before 1 okt. 1942 is unknown to everyone.

Luftnachrichten-Regiment 203 was active in Holland. Some traces in archives:
-In February 1942 Commander 1.Nachtjagddivision asked Jafü Holland-Ruhrgebiet and Luftnacrichten- Rgt.203 etc.
- On 4tth March, 1942 A message about 'Stellung "Löwe" der L.N.203.
- On 6th March, 1942 Message fro m commander 82.Infanterie-Division, about Flugmeldegeräte des LN51 and 203.
- On 24th April, 1942 letter from Luftgaukommando Holland to Lg.Nachr.Rgt.Holland, Ln.rgt.201,Ln.Rgt.203, Ln.Abt.51
So, in addition to SES and http://www.ww2.dk/ground/ln/ln203.html: (Formed 1.10.42 in Metz, from the old Stab/Luftnachrichten-Regiment 203).
