Luftzeuggruppe 12 Feldluftzeugruppe research

Post by maxuechtritz » 01 Nov 2019 02:44

I am trying to find information on the basing on Werft-Abt. (v) 109.XII Luftzeuggruppe 12 and Feldluftzeuggruppe at Saint Georges-Motel in Normandy. Listed as being there June 1940 - ? and 1940 - Dec 43 respectively.
This information from a Luftwaffe bases in france in WW2.
This is further to my posts of trying to get information and images from the Luftwaffe officers' occupation of the Château de Saint-Georges-Motel during those years.

I can confirm that Feldluftzeuggruppe Westfrankreich, which was formed from Luftzeuggruppe 12 on 1 June 1940, was stationed at Saint Georges-Mötel from summer 1940 until it was ordered disbanded on 16.12.43.
Kommandeure:
Oberst Otto Zech (01.06.40 - 30.09.40)
Gen.Maj. Gustav Banse (01.10.40 - 30.07.43)
Gen.Lt. Ernst Dörffler (30.07.43 - 01.01.44)

As for the Werftabteilung (v), Werft-Abt. 109/XII was stationed at Groß-Sachsenhain during fall 1944 and into 1945. Prior to that, it might have been part of or attached to Fliegerhorstkommandantur E 7/XVII at Dreux, but that is just an educated guess.

That's all I have.

MANY THANKS Larry D ! I'll get there sooner or later. Any ideas where and how to research further for photos or for personal information of anyone who was stationed there (to contact archives or relatives for photos)?

All of these officers had wartime assignments with Feldluftzeuggruppe Westfrankreich and therefore their surviving papers, diaries, letters home and photos would be an excellent source for information on St. Georges-Mötel. Their Offizier Personalakten are all at BA-MA Freiburg and contain details on their families and last known addresses. You can either go there yourself and look through them or you can hire a BA-MA accredited researcher to go through them and extract the names of family who might lead you to their personal photo collections.

Hi Larry..I have another request, sorry. Since these posts, we have found a number of beautiful water colours painted by a German officer - almost certainly Luftwaffe - based at Chateau St Georges-Mötel in 1942. He has signed them L. Zachmann. I want to try what many would think impossible ... track down any existing relatives, even children or grandchildren of Zachmann. And then "reunite" them with the paintings. Perhaps Zachmann left them in the chateau a hurry in 1944, or maybe he gave them to a local sweetheart. Any advice about where to start to verify his identity and service?

I know it's a long shot but you were so quick to help previously and eras hav access to a data base?

Kind Regards,
Max
