Flakscheinwerfer-Abteilung 469(v), France 1944

#1

Post by CNE503 » 26 Aug 2020, 22:05

Hello,

Does anyone know exactly where was deployed this searchlight battalion in France on July 15th, 1944?
I'm guessing as part of the Flakscheinwerfer-Regiment 195 (20. Flak-Brigade, 16. Flak-Division), it was contributing among a lot of other battalions to the anti-access area denial above the Verwaltungswaffen sites in France.

Secondary question: what was the meaning of the (v) just after the number of this unit?

Thank you.

*up*

No one on this one?
It's a tough one, but even the (v) meaning is not understandable by anyone?

(v) = verlegefähig/verlegbar (both are used online, but I have to check which is actually the correct one)
(o) = ortsfest

(PS this is not always the best place to ask about LF ground units like Flak and search light units. )

Hello,

Unfortunately, this page - that I checked before posting my message - doesn't say anything concerning this battalion location in France on July 15th, 1944...

It did say 7.44 in Zeebrügge though, which location Tessin also mentions in "Verbände und Truppen der deutschen Wehrmacht und Waffen-SS im Zweiten Weltkrieg 1939-1945, 10. Band":

"Flakscheinwerfer-Abt. 469 (v) * 1943 ün [sic.] Luftgau VI durch Umbenennung der III. (Scheinw.)/Flak-Rgt. 4, 11.-13. Bttr. (FStO Dortmund) zu jetzt 4 Bttrn.; Einsatz in Belgien bei Zeebrügge (Flak-Rgt. 129); Whiter [sic.] 1944/45 umbenannt und umgegliedert in leichte Flak-Abt. 939, 1.-4. Bttr."

Well, I'm not buying it, because after being spotted in Zeebrügge (Belgium) in 1943, the battalion served several months under Flak-Regiment 431 (February to June 1944), which was the core of AAA of the city of Lille (northern France) - as Flakgruppe Lille. Then, in July 1944 (until October), it is said that the battalion was under Flak-Regiment 195 which was deployed in France - not Belgium - as Flakscheinwerfer-Regiment zbV.

So, unless another evidences of its presence near Brügge in July 1944, it could have been a mistake. Tessin is not really precise, he just says that the battalion went into action in Belgium in area Zeebrügge (but not when and how many did it stay there).

Dunno if relevant but Bundesarchiv appears to hold a 1944 folder in two volumes: "Anlagen zur Kampfanweisung der Flak-Scheinwerfer-Gruppe Somme (Serie)" which includes the unit: https://www.archivportal-d.de/item/CLNI ... IFSH6D2CUN

Damn... There is no town in France called Aun-le-château...
Auneuil, Auneau, Ainay, Aulnay, but definitely not Aun. Maybe Audun, near Luxembourg (either Audun-le-Tiche or Audun-le-Roman)?

Since the 20. Flak-Brigade HQ was in command of Flak units in the Doullens-Arras-Amiens-Abbeville area and Auxi-le-Château is in that area then maybe Aun should be Auxi?

Sure, it is a perfect match actually! Nice one!
It should be there, indeed.
Thank you for this!
