Luftwaffe attack on HMS Hood in 1939/40

#1

I believe that HMS Hood came under attack by some 30 German bombers early in the war. No bombs hit the Hood though one landed very close causing some minor damage.

Does anyone have any further info on this attack and the units involved?

26/9/39: 4 Ju 88 of I/KG30 bomb RN vessels in N SEA 2nd Lt Storp hits HMS Hood with one bomb that "bounced off" without exploding.

16/10/39: I/KG30 with 15 Ju 88 ordered to attack HMS Hood spotted off the East coast of Scotland. If she had entered port she was not to be attacked. This was in fact the case and she was not attacked.

see

http://hmshood.com/ship/history/Timeline.html

for an operational History of HMS Hood

The two attacks I mentioned are the only ones i have seen refered to. Neither involved 30 aircraft as far as my sources state see eg The Fledging Eagles by C Shores. Parhaps the 30 derives from KG 30 the unit involved in both attacks?

Thanks for the info Dave, your more than likely right concerning the number 30.

Do you happen to know if 2nd Lt Storp recieved any award for his attempt on the Hood?

Kind Regards

KG 30 wasn't the only Luftwaffe unit that attacked the HMS Hood in September 1939. The bomber wing KG 26 was involved, too (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Hood#World_War_II).
