JG 3 Udet

Hi,

I have a question to you, which I believe is complicated: Those of you familiar with the history of Jagdgeschwader 3 "Udet" know that this Luftwaffe unit neither operated in Norway/Scandinavia, nor was at any time disposed tactically by Luftflotte 5. Despite that fact, I have very certain information that some Luftwaffe ground personell belonging to 3./JG 3 served in north Norway (Bardufoss/Tromsoe area) in 1940-1941. This is based on the Feldpost-Nr. given by one particular soldier, who I am trying to trace (he got a son in Tromsö), which was first 31489 and later L 13709. Both were used by 3./JG 3.

Can anyone give me any hints about how this could be possible?

Hello.
I have looked into a list that contains feldpostnumbers used in Norway.
Couldnt find L 13709.
But i did find 31489.
That belong to Heeres Küstenbattr. 974-16.bttr (H.K.A.R.974-16) In Grønsviken/Mosjøen, used from des.1942 until wars end.
It also belong to Stalag 380 - Aus.kdo.Grønsviken under (H.K.A.R.974-16)
A prisoner of war unit seems to be in Grønsviken building the battery.(974-16.bttr)
A suggestion could be that the guy was in one of these units, then transferred to the unit belonging to L 13709.
Maybe not what you are looking for, but its a link to one of the numbers.
regards

31489 was issued to 3rd Staffel of JG 3 from 1939 until 1941, when the unit received the new number 27757. The number was reissued in 1942 for the 11./HKAA 750 --> from 1943 16./HKAR 974.

L 13709 was issued to 3rd Staffel of JG 3 in January 1942.

So, this person definitely used the Feldpost-Nr of 3./JG 3. I have also seen photos of him, always wearing a Luftwaffe uniform.
