Aircraft used in Battle of Britain compared to Barbarossa?
Aircraft used in Battle of Britain compared to Barbarossa?
What were the main Luftwaffe aircraft used as opposed to main used in Barbarossa? Were Barbarossa more advanced?
Luftwaffe planes
The Luftwaffe started the Russian campaign with the same aircraft as were available during the Battle of Britain. New versions of the Me-109 "F",
Me-110's, Heinkel 111's and Dornier 217's. The "new" aircraft the He-177
and the Me-210 were still crashing, and were not available for front line
use. The number of aircraft at the start of Barbarossa was less than the
Luftwaffe had at the start of the Battle of Britain. German aircraft production was still at pre-war levels. thanks brustcan

Re: Aircraft used in Battle of Britain compared to Barbaross
As brustcan stated - with few exceptions - the LW equipment for the first 6 months of Barbarossa was almost identical to that of the BoB. REAL improvements only occurred in the second half on 1942.Volklin wrote:What were the main Luftwaffe aircraft used as opposed to main used in Barbarossa? Were Barbarossa more advanced?

Even in 1942 some unit still had the Bf-109E7varjag wrote:As brustcan stated - with few exceptions - the LW equipment for the first 6 months of Barbarossa was almost identical to that of the BoB. REAL improvements only occurred in the second half on 1942.
or the Hs-123.
Some Fighter Pilot Aces kept flying their Bf-109E as long as they could, because their Firepower was greater than the new Model Bf-109F2
