Yes! I remember that! In the book I read, the pilot had the ejector seat explained to him, nodded and smiled to the man explaining it, and then privately promised himself never to use it.
I think it was also recommended that pilots never belly-land in the event of an undercarriage failure, becase the rear engine would likely crush them.

Ejection seats.....
It appears that the He 219 nachtjäger had the first ejection seats installed and they were used on occassion especially when I./NJG 1 a/c were shot down in combat by Mosquito night fighters.

Hi,
Although this thread is almost two decades, I should point out that the Heinkel He 280 prototype jet fighter was the first aircraft to use ejection seats, but since the He 280 did not enter production, the He 219 thus gets the credit as the first aircraft with ejection seats to enter production.
