Maxschnauzer,

You made me work hard to find the answer. Very good of you.

This aircraft was piloted by Hptm. Herwig Knüppel, Kommandeur of II./JG 26, March 1940.

Thank you Maxschnauzer,

My question is the following: Which Luftwaffe unit, (which took part in the Battle of France), painted the noses of their aircraft yellow, and what nickname were they later given by USAAF bomber aircrews ?

Several units had yellow painted noses but I think you may be speaking of "the Abbeville Boys" of JG 26.

Quite correct von thoma.

Next question is yours to give.

P.S. to all; I will be absent for the next few weeks/months, as I just found out today that I must have surgery on my left eye tomorrow and my vision is not great in my right as it is now. So I may not be able to use my computer for awhile.
I will miss all of you and have fun with the trivia.
See you all soon I hope.
