IMAD is right about the Stuka being vulnerable to fighter opposition. I was unaware that it was actually used in the West in the AT role. I'd be surprised with the overwhelming aerial superiority of the Western Allies if the Ju-87 wasn't withdrawn from service.

Thanks to Tony and Martti for the update on the Shturmovik's armament.

Didn't the late-war Stukas fly mainly at night? That's how the Ju87G could have survived against Allied air superiority in the West.

At least Hans-Ulrich Rudel flew in daytime in 1944/1945. Althought he changed his Ju-87 to FW-190D in 1945...

Not very easy to spot tanks at night...

I would go with the Ju87G.

If I am not mistaken the only aircraft to score more tank kills was the AH64 in the Gulf War.

Fighter bombers at the time were no where near as good at precision bombing as aircraft such as the Ju87.

I doubt that very much, given the number of Il-2s and their use in the anti-tank role over several years. Although I don't believe the undoubtedly inflated Soviet claims, I think they probably killed far more tanks than anything else. In comparison, there weren't that many Ju-87Gs, and there was only one Rudel.

Me i would go for the Ju-87 no particular reason i just love the bloody thing it looks agressives and it has that whailing dohicky thinngy, gotta love those factory add ons, anyway more seriously, other than that the Ju-88G-1 (i could be wrong on the actual designation) with the PAK 75mm Anti tank gun.

Ju 87 is my choice. No point having fighter abilities in a special role plane.
Precision is more important then the heavy load of rockets that have little chance of hitting anything.

In regards of the number of tank kills: IL-2 had problems in finding targets (and when finding in killing them) something very easy for Ju 87.

That depends on whether you are facing fighter opposition. The Luftwaffe switched to the Fw 190 for ground attack later in the war because the Ju 87 were getting slaughtered by fighters.

What is your source for that claim?

Could you elaborate on that last statement?

Hs 129B-3, equipped with 75 mm BK 7.5 cannon. All in all 25 planes were produced.
