General der Kavallerie Franz Freiherr Kress von Kressenstein

Hi!

A pic of Gen.d.Kav. Franz Freiherr Kress von Kressenstein has been on the hit list of quite a number of Forum members for several years, but up till now has proved to be extremely elusive. I learnt today that the new Vol. 7 Kn-Lu of DIE GENERALE DES HEERES 1921-1945 has an excellent portrait of the General. If anyone is fortunate enough to already have a copy of the book, a pic of our elusive General would be VERY MUCH APPRECIATED!

Regards,

VJK

VJK

There is another photo that should be in that volume that I have long sought: GM Ewald Kraeber. Hope someone can oblige us.

I hope that someone will be able to provide you with a portrait pic of Kraeber, but in the meanwhile....I didn't know you were looking for him!

Hi JC!

You're very welcome! I'm afraid I don't have any further info on the pic, though I agree with you that it certainly looks like an award ceremony.

Best regards,

VJK

Hi!

For all those who are eagerly waiting for a kind soul to put us out of our misery, I've managed to find a preview of the pic in the book.

Dear all,

there is a widely spreaded death of date giving 14.01.1957.

Please note that his gravestone in Planegg and the entry in "Genealogisches Handbuch des in Bayern immatrikulierten Adels" both however are giving 04.01.1957; so this is the proper one.

Dear all,

the große Ordensspange of GdK Franz Frhr. Kreß von Kressenstein was sold in Vienna in 2018:

https://www.dorotheum.com/auktionen/akt ... ick+Search

However I am not sure as the Reichsheer rank lists up to 01.05.1932 are showing his awards detailling:

Königreich Preußen, Kronen-Orden, 4. Klasse
EK 1
Königreich Preußen, Militär-Verdienstorden, 4. Klasse mit Schwertern und der Krone (BM4xmKr)
BD2
Königreich Sachsen, Albrechts-Orden, Ritterkreuz 2. Klasse (SA3b)
Hansestadt Hamburg, Hanseatenkreuz (HH)
Herzogtum Braunschweig, Heinrich der Löwe Orden (BrH4)
Herzogtum Braunschweig, Kreuz 2. Klasse (BrK2)

I don´t think that the Reichsheer rank lists are that wrong referring to awards. Any thought from the real pros?

Jürgen

It’s close but not a 100% match as you say. Here is his 1914 RL entry (Bavarian RL).

Perhaps the bar belonged to a relative or someone in the same/similar regiment as a number of the medals match up.
