General der Infanterie z.V. Albrecht Steppuhn (1877-1955)
Hi!
Can anybody offer details of his early career? He held the position of Chief of Staff 3. Kav. Div. 01.03.1926-31.10.1928 but was he really general staff qualified?
Did he attend the Kriegsakademie and if yes when? Or was it just the plm making him suitable for this post?
Thanks!
Jürgen

Re: Gen. d. Inf. Steppuhn
Jürgen,
Steppuhn did not attend the Kr. Akad. He was commissioned a Sek.Lt. in IR 128 on 07.03.1896 directly upon graduation from the Corps of Cadets, Oberlt. 20.03.1906 and Hptm. 19.07.1911. He served as the regimental adjutant from 1904-1910- an unusually long time. At the start of the war he was a company commander in the same regiment.
Also, the positions of Chief of Staff in Reichswehr were not the same as "Chef des Generalstabs..." in the old army. They were not General Staff positions, but rather more of an administrative position.

Re: Gen. d. Inf. Steppuhn
Steppuhn´s career and life - although a Pour le merite holder - is still not yet explored in depth. Further questions I have:
1. There are several sources giving his DoB as 15.07.1877. Several sources, including the "gravesone site", are giving 18.07.1877. Unfortunately on the pic of the gravestone the first figures of the DOB are not visible. See: https://ww2gravestone.com/people/steppuhn-albrecht/
2. Next question is his DoD. All sources are giving 22.05.1955, including the "gravestone site". However if you read the gravestone properly it is actually 22.02.1955? Anybody able to confirm? See: https://ww2gravestone.com/people/steppuhn-albrecht/
