Hello Rossano.
Thanks for the info, that explains a lot.
The info comes from a book "Duel aan het Schipdonkkanaal" written by George Spittael.
On 26.05 during the attack on Adegem, Schmidt-Hammer was badly wounded by a grenade splinter in the left chest.
A mistake on my part, he rejoined his regiment in November 1940.
I am in possession of a diary of Gefreiter Vogl, member of the 7th Company of the 456I.R, in which he wrote that the regiment was taken over by Hernn Oberstleutnant Gepp, so it must be Gebb.
Does anyone have a photo of this officer?

I was wrong, it seems confirmed that Schmidt-Hammer was wounded in may 40.
But if Gebb took over the Rgt. in june, who commanded the Rgt. inbetween ?

In addition to my last question above (nobody knows ?) I have just a new question
I found a Kriegsrangliste reading : "Schmidt-Hammer Abgang 20.7.40"
Now I don' t understand, if he was schwer verw. on 26.5.40, why did he remain until 20.7.40 ? Other officers replaced him from june to dec. 40

Seriously, guys, I am speechless that you still ask questions like that. For the umpteenth time, 19 or 20 July is the date Schmidt-Hammer was placed in the FR. Until then, he was still the formal commander of the regiment (although incapacitated), and whoever was in actual command was only mstFb. No riddle, no mystery, no enigma here. 8-)

Askropp
I agree with You partially ony. He was put in FR on 19.7.40 (after he was wia nearly 2 months before, isn´t that strange ?), but what I consider most strange is the fact that in the Kriegsrangliste it´s not written "Führ.Res. 20.7" but it´s written "Abgang 20.7". Usually when in a KRL it´s written "Abgang" it means that the officer X left the division on that specific day, but here this is not the case.
If in this case "Abgang" has to be understood like "FR." then my last question has obviously no sense, matter is closed (but it still remains open my previous question, if Schmidt-Hammer was severely wounded in may 40 and Gebb took over the Rgt. in june, who commanded the Rgt. from may to june ?).

I would assume that it was, in all probability, the oldest Bataillonskommandeur.

The search continues. I found this in Barbara Selz's book, Das Grüne Regiment.

Oertel was notoriously Vertreter after Gebb
Interesting would be to find out who was the Btl.Kdr. commanding i.V. in may/june
