Another long term case (for me).
I apologize, but the zoom limit of the photo doesn't help much, and it's not a very clear face.
Oberst (Generalmajor) Gustav-Adolf Riebel funeral.
Thank's in advance.
Jaime.

This is Wilhelm von Lengerke (page 1696).
Thank's a lot, graveland.

I find it impossible. Absolutely impossible to believe, that the unmistakable and hundreds of times seen face of General Hermann Balck, in an excellent photo, is not absolutely identifiable and completely known to you, Mr. Krivchenko.
Same case for the other very well know general.
This kind of posts, is like you post a pic of Erwin Rommel or Wilhelm Keitel, labeled as "unknow generals", asking for an ID.
I am the most ignorant of all members, but this "material" have no sense in a forum like AHF.
So,what's the point, gentleman?

Hi Ingward

It does look like Mauss, but Mauss surrendered to British troops.

Yes, officially it is considered that way. But! The analysis of events shows that everything is not so simple. On May 8, 1945, he allegedly led the 7th Panzer Division to the west and surrendered to the Americans (according to other sources, to the British). However, there are some contradictions. Firstly, it is known that on March 25, 1945, Generalleutnant Karl Mauss was seriously wounded by shell fragments in both legs and head while riding to the positions of one of his regiments. The injury led to the amputation of his left leg, after which he never returned to the front. But then how did he manage to bring the 7th Panzer Division to the west and capitulate to the allies?
It is known that units of the 7th Panzer Division fought in the Berlin area and were unlikely to be able to break into the Allied occupation zone. In addition, between March 26 and May 08, 1945, the division was commanded by Oberst Hans Christern. It is more likely that Generalleutnant Mauss was captured by the russians while in the hospital, but then, as a seriously wounded man, was handed over by them to the allies.
