Here's some information on two of the persons:

Bednarek, Emil (1907-?) – prisoner, then trusty at concentration camp (Konzentrationslager - KL) Auschwitz {put on trial Dec 1963 by a West German court at Frankfurt-am-Main for 14 murders at KL Auschwitz (NYT 7 Feb 1964:2:5; NYT 12 May 1964:12:1); convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment at hard labor 19 Aug 1965 (NYT 20 Aug 1965:1:6; JuNSV Verfahren Lfd.Nr.595; LG Frankfurt/M. 650819; BGH 690220; Snyder Ency p. 99).}

Czerwinski, Horst (c. 1922-?) – service, concentration camp (Konzentrationslager - KL) Lagischa (Poland); service, KL Auschwitz 1943-1944 {arrested and put on trial by a West German court at Lüneburg on charges of shooting Soviet prisoners and POWs at KL Lagischa in 1944; convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment (lebenslänglich) 26 May 1989 (JuNSV Verfahren Lfd.Nr.907; LG Lüneburg 890526); arrested and put on trial by a West German court at Frankfurt-am-Main; trial halted Jan 1981 after 3 ½ years of proceedings due to medical conditions; resumed 19 Aug 1982 (NYT 20 Aug 1982:6:6); subsequent disposition unknown.}

SS-Unterscharführer Otto Clauss directed the Political Department branches in Birkenau from 1942 to February 1943.

SS-Unterscharführer Horst Czerwinski was Lagerführer of sub-camp Lagischa in Lagisza, from February 1944 to 6 September 1944, when it was dissolved by the commandant of Auschwitz III. Before that he was also Lagerführer of sub-camp Sosnowitz (I) in Sosnowiec, from August 1943 to February 1944.

SS-Oberscharführer Franz Xaver Dornacher directed the Auschwitz (I) - main camp commissary.

Hope this helps you a bit.

Regards,

Peter H

Schmauser -- Here's why I listed Bednarek as an inmate:

The New York Times (7 Feb 1964:2:5) published an article about Bednarek under the title "Auschwitz Trusty Explains Beatings." The text reads like this:

"A former inmate of the Auschwitz concentration camp who became a trusty testified today [6 Feb 1964] that he beat fellow prisoners to "save" them from more severe punishment.

"I socked them if I caught them stealing bread or potatoes, or fighting each other," Silesian-born Emil Bednarek told a Frankfurt assize court that is trying him and 21 former Auschwitz guards for atrocities. "This way order was restored and I did not have to report them," he continued. He implied that "reporting them" would have meant torture by the SS (Elite Guards).

The indictment charges Bednarek, who is 56 years old, with having beaten an undetermined number of prisoners to death while he was barracks supervisor.

He is also accused of having participated in the murder of 2,359 persons who had been imprisoned in what was known as Family Camp B. Bednarek denied both charges."

Danuta Czech's Auschwitz Chronicle entry for 18 Aug 1942 (p. 221) has a list of Polish prisoners executed that day, including the name "Jan Bednarek (prisoner No. 21925)." Czech notes that the prisoners were from Silesia and had been deported to KL Auschwitz in 1940-1941. As a speculation, "Jan Bednarek" may have been related to Emil. Jan is the only Bednarek listed in Czech's index.

Martin Lumnitzer, "after a period of retraining," took over the guard at Gleiwitz I subcamp 27 Mar 1944. The prisoners there were employed at railroad repair for the Reich railway renovation works. (Auschwitz Chronicle p. 602).

Does anyone have any information on:-

SS-Hauptsturmfuhrer Adolph BENNO apart from whats in "Camp Men by MacLean"?

SS-Unterscharfuhrer Bruno Hugo ALBRECHT

When did Stefan Baretzki die and do you know his rank?

Also can anyone help with how I find out when certain SS men died ie well after the war or if they are still alive today?
