hm, ok, with some tolerance the answer fits to part 3 ! ...Yes, indeed, it does 8-)
Not to say this evening "Denk' ich an Dieter ...,..." (after Heinrich Heine), you got it your way ! :D

The answer I had in mind for part 3 :
In the morning of 26.01.1943 three generals of IV. AK - General der Artillerie Max Pfeffer,
K.G. IV.AK , General der Infanterie Alexander von Hartmann, Kdr 71. ID , Generalmajor Ulrich Vasoll, Arko 144/IV. AK - totally desperate as they were, were standing on the Zariza Railway Embankment and shooting towards the soviets [assume with their pistols]. Until GFM Paulus was informed about that and ordered them to move back, General Alexander von Hartmann was shot ! The other two got POW on 31.01.1943.

So, this way, Alexander von Hartmann is the only general KIA ! in the last weeks of Stalingrad ...!
In addition this interesting site :

Your turn, Dieter

Well then, ....all roads lead to Rome :) (or: there are more ways then three to heaven)

A very interesting and impressing person is to be find:
Habilitation über Akustik (Klangfarben), important habilitation paper "Physics of tone colours"
Ministerialdirigent in the uniform of the german army.
Leiter der Forschungsabteilung im Heereswaffenamt (he headed the research department of the German army),
Leiter der Abteilung Wissenschaft im RKM bzw OKW (he headed also the department of sciences in the Research Council),
Bevollmächtigter für Sprengstoffphysik im RFR/Reichsforschungsrat (Plenipotentiary for explosive physics in the Research Council of the Reich).
In secret patents and his own report the findings on the fusion research of the Heereswaffenamt (HWA/ army department for weapons) were pointed out. With the "x-trigger" named configuration, the scientists of the HWA had found a way to obtain thermonuclear reaction.
Do you know his name ?

Well, something mixed ; for (more difficult) part 3 there could be multiple answers
possible, but fitting to the hints should not many :)

part 1 :
Persons and their actions often were used by German Propaganda. In some cases members of the Wehrmacht were "entitled".
Asked is for the two, who were called :
"Der Stier von Scapa Flow" / "Der Held von Narvik"

part 2 :
Both [-> answer part 1] didn't survive the war.
When and where did they die ?

part 3 :
Another prominent soldier, who did belong to another wing of the Wehrmacht as the two, had a remarkable fate. Unbelievable bad luck caused his death a few years after the war.
He belonged to the avant-garde of a brand new technique in WW2 and was killed at a place, in circumstances and through an "old technique".
Who and how ?

Quiz open for answering part by part.

regards, luchs

small piece of cheese for part 1 , Dieter :)
"Der Stier von Scapa Flow" -> Prien / "Der Held von Narvik" -> Dietl

part 2 and 3 open ; not Bär, but right concerning wing and hit concerning "new technique"

Prien sunk by destroyer "Wolverine" 08.03.1941 Northern Atlantic Sea
Dietl died by air-crash 23.06.1944 near Waldbach (Semmering)

part 3: maybe Heinz-Wolfgang Schnaufer from NJG 1 with the "Schräge Musik" . He died by car-accident near Bordeaux 15.07.1950

very near, Dieter
part 2 correct !

part 2 was needed : we have KIA at sea / Prien , Dietl by air crash.
Third, Lw man, on ground.

wasn't a normal car crash ; more bad luck.
"older technique" than a car...

Dieter, you have answered me out :? :) :D
Weissenberger does fit, like Schnaufer already.
Have to think better for exclusive part 3 answers..

I had in mind Kurt Welter :
http://www.luftwaffe.cz/welter.html
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kurt_Welter
http://www.luftwaffe39-45.historia.nom. ... welter.htm
Having survived the war, Welter was killed on 7 March 1949 at Leck in Schleswig-Holstein waiting at a level crossing, when logs falling from an improperly loaded passing train crushed his car
Chapeau! and Your turn please

Lynx, wieder was gelernt - thanks for the flowers and the clearing up. I had only "Autounfall" (car-crash) concerning Welter in my german source (Ernst Obermaier) :( .

Neues Spiel, neues Glück. Faites votre jeu! The show must go on :D

Perhaps you know the famous French cheese with the trade name "La vache qui rit" (= the laughing cow / Die Lachende Kuh).
A german submarine (U-Boot) had this marking at his turret.
Why ? The number and the commander' s name please !?

Here is "La Vache qui rit" in a modern modification

following the example of famous commander Prien which ordered painting of his U boot

Commander of U 69 wanted a paint on U Boat when stationned in Harbour of Lorient on Atlantic Coast.
the add of "La Vache qui rit" was on walls in the town give inspiration to commander.
The painter had orders to paint a cow but he reproduce the add of "La Vache qui rit".
U 69 was in Lorient from 18.0341 till 08.07.41 then he moved to Saint Nazaire.

Aye, aye Sir ! C’ est à vous Georges.
J’ aime vôtre fromage !! :D

Dieter

BTW:
The painter had orders to paint a cow by the I. WO Oberleutnant zur See Auffermann
like the "Stier von Scapa Flow" (the furious bull of Scapa Flow), but he had no talent for painting such a specific design.
It was high time for anchors away, but without a good-looking and considerable painting !?!
What to do ????
In black despair the brave sailor saw "la vache qui rit" on the lid of a case - you know the rest
