I believe that Scherzer completed a huge task and that it needed doing.

I have been trying to do some analysis of the 232 men named at the start of this thread using the brief data he supplied, to understand the different situations because there are many variations within the 232 which were listed.

There appear to be several distinct categories which Scherzer has not made specifically clear and I believe that it is important that some clear groupings are made.

These 11 men who were awarded the RK but were later removed from the listing due to the 20th July 1944 plot investigations - they were however awarded the RK,

There are 2 awards actually approved by Hitler, one being Scherhorn (see a post above here) which was awarded based on successful Russian Intelligence misinformation (recipient in Russian captivity) and the other was a posthumous award which was placed on hold until there was information of the fate of the recipient. On his return to Germany Scherhorn refused to accept the RK.

SS-Panzer-Armee "Dietrich awards" are interesting in that staff officer Hermann Buch supported the original listing used by von Seemen reportedly supplied by Dietrich but unavailable to view in archives. This listed names below and includes Seibold who was apparently on a first list recognized by Buch, but not on a second list, and also Hauser who was on a second list recognized by Buch, but not on the first list.

I beg your pardon, but that is not true any longer. According to the Gesetz zur Aufhebung nationalsozialistischer Unrechtsurteile in der Strafrechtspflege from 1998, especially after the Änderungsgesetze from 2002 and 2009, an Einzelfallprüfung is no longer necessary. All politically motivated sentences of Nazi courts have summarily been revoked, declared unlawful and therefore void. In fact, because the creation of the Ehrenhof was politically motivated and unlawful in itself, it was never able to impose valid and legal sentences from the outset, so from a legal perspective, the heroes of 20 July never even lost their ranks and medals in the first place.

Scherzer's work was substantial and important, but in the field of historical research if new information is obtained, then the matter is not "settled." I can't find such a unit. To my knowledge Oberst Johannes "Hans" BARGE (*23.03.1906 Lage - †28.02.2000 Lage) was the commander of Grenadier-Regiment 746 (133.Festungs-Division).

Dear all, I am proud owner of the 3rd edition of Scherzer. On p. 73 there is a note that the "Gutachten" (assessment report) re the invalidity of awards after May 8th, 1945 by WASt/Mr. Bernd Gericke is included in full wording in the attachment (Anhang).

However I can not find this report in the attachment. Is it missing in 3rd edition and maybe available in the 1st or 2nd edition? Is anybody willing to share in this case?
