Kdr 391. Sicherungs-Div. 1945

#17

Post by genstab » 27 Oct 2013, 12:14

Hello all,
Need some help if anyone has the information. I have been trying to discover whether Gen. Rudolf Sieckenius returned to 391. Sicherungs-Div. after Gen.Lt. Alexander Goeschen's m.F.b., which ended on I believe 25 March 1945 according to Bradley/Hildebrand. Sieckenius was killed in action in the Battle of Halbe on 28. April, but I cannot discover what unit he was then commanding. The only clue I have is that the 24-4-45 Stellenbesetzung in "Die Geheimen Tagesberichte" lists him in command of 391. Sicherungs- Div. but we know that particular Stellenbesetzung is not completely accurate due to the disintegration of the German units in late April 1945.

Thanking you for any help and those in the US (and Canada?) have a fun Halloween. No overeating candy!

Best,
Bill in Cleveland

The general himself charged forward firing a Schmieser machine pistol. A few moments later, Sickenius and his men were cut down by Soviet machine gun.
You should never believe what you read in the Landser.

P.S. My Grandma always said: "When a guy rings at your door and claims that the MP 40 was a Schmeißer, laugh loud into his face and slam the door shut. But just in case that he even misspells its name, keep a bucket of cold water ready to pour it over him."

27.12.1916 Leutnant d.R.
Rudolf Sieckenius was commissioned in 5. Niederschlesisches Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 154, at the same time as his brother Otto. Ironically, both also appear in the same casualty list on 22.06.1917. The regimental history of IR 154 might tell us if they were wounded at the same time or just within a few days of each other.

There was also a Leutnant der Landwehr a.D. who was promoted to Oberleutnant on 24 December 1914 while serving in the Ersatz-Bataillon of IR 154, and to Hauptmann d.L.a.D. on 16 July 1916 while serving in the 2. Landsturm-Infanterie-Bataillon Ostrowo V/22. He is listed as a Holzhändler in Kattowitz in the 1908 rank list of reserve and Landwehr officers. Given how uncommon the name is and given that all three are connected to IR 154, I would surmise that this was their father Alexander.

Otto, listed as Ott-Heinrich in his death certificate and Otto Heinrich in the Volksbund database, was killed in action in March 1945 as a Major. Since Otto was the older brother, I would guess he was a Major der Reserve.

There is a problem with 221. Sicherungs-Div. According to Tessin it was disbanded on 28.07.1944 so Gen. Sieckenius couldn't be commanding it in August.

Does anyone know where Phil Nix and askropp got their data from? Mitcham (and hence Wikipedia) gives a DoB as May 16 1896. While close, some of the other dates don't match Mitcham either. I am inclined to believe the former [ie, Nix/Askroop]. Dr. Mitcham, do you still post here?

PS, I realise this is a resurrection of an old thread, but some of the ops must still be around.

The date 18.08.1896 is also given in his entry at the Verlustlisten.
