Alwin-Broder Albrecht

#1

Post by Heinkle » 12 Apr 2007, 17:27

Hi all,

I was searching through Wikipedia for something and on the Kriegsmarine page, an internal link led me to a page about Alwin-Broder Albrecht, who was apparently 'Hitler's adjutant for the Navy (Kriegsmarine) in 1938 - 1939, and as personal aide from 1939'. That is virtually all the information on Wikipedia about him, which is strange given the fairly key role he had, and i was wondering if anyone had some more detailed info, etc.

I did search through the forums for an existing topic on him but couldnt find any, so apologies if this just another topic on him.

Thanks
Heinkle

Alwin-Broder Albrecht
DOB: 18/09/1903 in St. Peter. Suicide: 1 May 1945, Berlin

Joined the Navy on 30 March 1922
Fähnrich zur See - 1 March 1924
Leutnant zur See - 1 October 1926
Oberleutnant zur See - 1 July 1928
Kapitänleutnant -1 June 1934
Korvettenkapitän - 1 November 1937
NSKK-Oberführer - June 1939

When Karl Jesko von Puttkamer, Hitler's liaison officer to the Navy was transferred to active service on 19 June 1938 Albrecht took over until 30 June 1939 when it was found out that he had married a woman "with a past" and the Commander of the Navy Grossadmiral Erich Raeder wanted him transferred to Tokyo as a military attache or wanted him kicked out of the Navy completely, something Hitler was against. So Hitler appointed Albrecht as NSKK-Oberfuhrer and made him one of his adjutants. Hitler had a two hour argument with Raeder and this was soemthing Raeder never forgot. Hitler went on to meet Albrecht's wife and liked her and couldn't see what all the fuss was about. Under Reichsleiter Philipp Bouhler, Albrecht remained on Hitler's staff until 22 April 1945 when he was flown out of Berlin. He was later listed as missing and it is thought that he probably committed suicide on 1 May 1945.

Here a rare pic of the navy adjutant Alwin-Broder Albrecht, who was sacked later on 1939, with Navy uniform dated 20.04.1939. He is pictured between Schmundt (Adj. d. Wehrmacht) and v. Below (Air Force Adjutant).

What medals is Below wearing? Luftwaffe long-time service for 4 and 8 year? Or Flower Wars medals?
