Die Panzerknacker - the holders of the tank destruction badge
Re: Die Panzerknacker- the holders of the tank destruction badge
Fangio,
I've got 7 Luftwaffe candidates listed that have 3 or more (or I don't have the number listed). These are;
Hauptmann Hans Roland Fröbel (6 kills)
Leutnant Johannes-Matthius Hönscheid (2+ kills)
Konrad Köhne (? kills)
Oberleutnant Wilhelm Kuhlwilm (3 kills)
Sanitäts-Oberfähnrich Hans-Harald Mecklau (3 kills)
Oberjäger Schudlich (? kills)
Hauptmann Günther Sempert (? kills)
It's not Mecklau, Fröbel, Köhne, Kuhlwilm, Mecklau, 'cause I have photo's of them and I think that Sempert only had 1 kill to his name, and it's not Schudlich 'cause he's an Oberjäger which basically rules out all seven. I'll have to dig into my archives to see if I can find any other Luftwaffe PVA winners
Cheers,
Neil

Many thanks Neil for all that info.
Please take your time to dig in to your archives, there's no hurry.

Re: Die Panzerknacker- the holders of the tank destruction badge
The post to which Neil refers to / the topic Köhne (with the PVA pic) has been split off / Bernd, Mod
Fhj.Fw Heinz Köhne 5./FJR 6, DKiG, Gheel Sep 1944
The pic's have been collected over time from sites such as eBay, wehrmacht-awards.com and das-ritterkreuz.de and these were saved before I started logging their source . However, a quick check and I found that the Kohne came from Juha in the link supplied , Mecklau file came from 'www.aufhimmelzuhause.com', Frobel came from FANGIO in this forum and I got Kuhlwilm from Peter H also on this forum .
Cheers,
Neil

A bit info of Köhne:

He fought against British in Gheel September 10th 1944 and is mentioned in Stuart Hill's book "By Tank Into Normandy".The same pic is also in the book and it's from author's collection.
Cheers/Juha

Dear colleagues,
the topic Fhj.Fw Heinz Köhne 5./FJR 6, DKiG, Gheel Sep 1944
has been split off from here and was made sticky in the neighborhood. Done this to highlight the coverage of this person/case and to consider the purists of this PVA sticky (avoid overload with too big sidesteps). Hope this is in the interest of all.
Thanks, Bernd / Mod

Re: Die Panzerknacker- the holders of the tank destruction badge
Dear Neil
While I was looking for the biography of Oberstleutnant Dreyer (Kampfgruppe Chill) in one of my books on Knight Cross holders, I accidentally came across the biography of Knight Cross holder Oberst Hermann Josef DROPMAN who was awarded with the Panzer-Vernichtungs-Abzeichen Gold on 04.07.1944 .
The biography also includes 3 pictures of Oberst Dropman .
If you are interested don't hesitate to contact me, please .
Kindly regards from,
Chris

A new PVA recipient (at least to me), Matthias Poll is shown on the RKT thread from Fangio, if bake has identified him correctly.

Re: Die Panzerknacker- the holders of the tank destruction badge
Hi,
I have another two names to add to the database. This time from Richard Landwehr's "V. SS Mountain Corps and 32nd SS Panzer Grenadier Division "30 Januar" on the Oder Front, 1945" a 'Siegrunen' book published in 1991. Due to the late stage of the war, it's entirely probable that these individuals did not actually receive their PVA's, but there is reference to them having earned them.
On page 34, there is a mention of Obersturmbanfuehrer (Erich) Rosenbusch, the commander of SS Rgt. 'Falke' who "personally blew away a russian tank right in front of his command post".
I've done a search of the forum and found the following;
http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... 8&t=112808
Number two is on page 78 ahere it refers to Hauptsturmfuhrer (Karl) Hohengassner of the SS Flak Abteilung 550 who "...grabbed a Panzerfaust and knocked out the lead tank"

Panzernahkampf spange?
Hi,
I have a Sterbebild for a member of a Panzerjaeger Regiment which commemorates a winner of 'des Panzernahkampf'.
Question; Would this be a PVA or would this mean that he participated in a tank battle (possibly with a Self propelled gun?). There is a photo of him wearing an M36 infantry tunic rather than an assault gunners wrap which suggests he was in a PAK unit.
Comments and opinions welcome.
Cheers,
Neil

Re: Die Panzerknacker- the holders of the tank destruction badge
Thanks for the new names guys! Neil, I think that most likely indicates a tank destruction badge. What was his name?
