According to the officers listing of IIa H. Gru. A v. Prittwitz was only WIA not KIA. So a further removal from the list.
According to this:

http://web.archive.org/web/200801100925 ... byday.com/

He was KIA.

And - http://web.archive.org/web/200801100925 ... byday.com/ :
[...] In the meantime the rest of K.3, A.A.3 with some tanks of the Lehr-Abt. takes Klonowo. A.A.3 encounters enemy resistance in Rozana. Polish cavalry defends the Poledno farmhouse. Rittm.v.Prittwitz und Gaffron commander of the 2./A.A.3 is KIA. K.3 is sent to Rozana to help but does not come forward also. The Pi.Btl.39 is more successful and takes Rozana in the night. [...]
Guderian in his "Erinnerungen eines Soldaten" also writes that he soon died from this wound.

As regards v. Prittwitz: This is very strange. Next time when I am in the archives I will look up v. Prittwitz in the Genealogisches Handbuch des Adels to see more about his fate. I will keep you up to date.

Additions in [ ].
Some complements to your excellent data, Stauffenberg  :
Buz Richard, 09.11.1896, Hptm., -, -, 01.09.1939, VB
Unit - II. battalion of Panzer-Regiment 35., division - 4. Panzer-Division, - he was KIA in his tank 400 metres from the forest located behind villages Mokra I, Mokra II and Mokra III (so between the forest and these villages).
Diebitsch Theobald, 12.03.1913, Lt. d. R., -, -, 16.09.1939, VB
Leutnant Diebitsch (he was rather Diebisch, not Diebitsch ? - maybe check this once again) was serving in 6. company of II./Panzer-Regiment 35., 4. Panzer-Division - KIA in his tank at Adamowa Góra near Ruszki on 16.09.1939 - by indirect fire of Polish 100mm howitzer from 6. battery of 17. light artillery regiment (4 x howitzers 100mm).
Eisenbeis Rudolf, 29.12.1915, Lt., -, -, 18.09.1939, VB
Eisenbeis (Leutnant) - commander of 10. Kp. from II./IR.59 (19. Infanterie-Division) since 03.09.1939 - WIA at Adamowa Góra near Ruszki on 17. Sept.39 by stomach shot from a sniper; died from this wound on 18. Sept.39.
Germerdonk Wilhelm, 06.03.1898, Maj., -, -, 16.09.1939, VB
He was the commander of III./IR.74 (19. Infanterie-Division) - KIA on 16.09.1939.
Grünberger, -, Lt., I. R. 356, [228. Div.], 17.09.1939, H. Gru. Nord
Grüneberg Walter, 25.05.1908, Lt., -, -, 17.09.1939, VB
And what about him?:

Olt. Grün - cmdr. of 11. Kp. of III./IR.73 (19. Infanterie-Division) - WIA 16.Sept.39 at Konstantynow; dies from these wounds 2 weeks later (so probably end of September / beginning of October 1939).

More details:

"[...] In the meantime the daylight improves the situation of II./73. The 5./73 is ordered to counterattack and pushes the enemy back around 5:00. Leutnant Simons leads the counterattack of platoon Kreusler and saves the men of the Stab, 8th and 13th company.

As the enemy seems to withdraw north platoon Kreusler continues to attack. Soon the enemy starts resistance and stops the platoon. Lt.Simons, Uffz.Fontaine and Lt.Kreusler are killed. II./73 loses 25 men at Bronislawy.

It is planed that elements of 1.Pz.Div. attack towards Rybno via the left wing of the regiment. The regiment has order to join the attack with II./73 left and I./59 right. I./73 should join to the right of I./59. The attack starts when the tanks of the armoured division arrive.

As the II./73 sets up behind III.Btl. the enemy starts to attack. The attack is rejected by arriving tanks of 1.Pz.Div. Immediately II./73 starts to pursue the enemy. The 10./73 which was in reserve until now cannot be held back. But the attack of the tanks is turning too far to the left. The tanks get out of contact. Soon the 10th company stands all alone west of Konstantynow and is pinned down by enemy fire.

The 11th company clears Konstantynow and pushes forward to the 10.Kp. Olt.Grün is wounded by grenade fragments. He dies two weeks later. Lt.Vilmar takes command of the company for the rest of the year.

In the meantime the attack of II./73 ,which the III.Btl. should follow according to the original plan, makes good progress. But soon the battalion is pinned down by enemy fire and has to reject heavy enemy counterattacks.

The attack of the 1.Pz.Div. is stopped at Jeziorko. To relief the right wing the regiment receives order to attack to the Witonia creek north of D.Szwarozin. Shortly before sunset I./59 right and III./73 left start the ordered attack. As the companies cross the height north of Konstantynow they encounter heaviest enemy defensive fire from D.Szwarozin and the big castle park. The companies advance to 400m before the enemy positions where they are pinned down in the heavy enemy fire. After fighting starts also in the flanks the companies have to be taken back to the starting positions. [...]"

Ebeling Theodor, 01.07.1885, Lt., [Grz.] I. R. 121, 50. Div., 06.09.1939, VB, H. Gru. Nord
And what about him?:

Oberstleutnant Johannes Eberhard - cmdr. III./Infanterie-Regiment 31. (24. Infanterie-Division) - KIA on 12.09.1939 - Popowek – Głowno.

Edit:

Btw - killed officers of Heer according to three different sources (Sanitat Inspection, KTB der Truppe and WVW/WED) - graphic comes from the book by Rudiger Overmans:

Heer:

PS:

- calculations of Sanitary Inspection include DoW members of other military forces who died in Heer hospitals (but only up to a certain date) but it does not include members of Heer who died in hospitals of other military forces.

- calculations of Sanitary Inspection from this table provided the number of WIA as around 30,000

- calculations of KTB der Truppe includes only numbers taken from Regimental war / combat journals of Heer regiments.

Image

Other overall casualties statistics (from the earliest one to the latest one):

1. Numbers from this site (there are some sources provide at the bottom of this site - but I haven't checked them yet):

http://www.panzerworld.net/fallweiss

5502 (221 officers) killed - (includes only numbers reported until 24.09.1939)
6278 (52 officers) missing - (includes only numbers reported until 24.09.1939)
22057 (323 officers) wounded - (includes only numbers reported until 24.09.1939)

2. Numbers provided by Hahn and Kennedy in their books - Kennedy writes that these are casualties of "the German Army" and Hahn that these are casualties of "deutschen Heeres":

8082 (364 officers) killed - (I have no any idea what is the origin of these numbers)
5029 (69 officers) missing - (I have no any idea what is the origin of these numbers)
27278 (527 officers) wounded - (I have no any idea what is the origin of these numbers)

3. Numbers from Hitler's speech in Reichstag on 06.10.1939 - these numbers were given to Hitler by his men on 30.09.1939:

http://www.humanitas-international.org/ ... 10-06.html

10572 KIA - (number given to Hitler by his men on 30.09.1939, which he repeated during his speech in Reichstag)
3409 MIA - (number given to Hitler by his men on 30.09.1939, which he repeated during his speech in Reichstag)
30,322 WIA - (number given to Hitler by his men on 30.09.1939, which he repeated during his speech in Reichstag)

"[...] Unfortunately, of those missing a certain number who fell into Polish hands will probably be found to have been massacred and killed. [...]"

"[...] The man, however, who intended, as he expressed it, to hack the German Army to pieces at the gates of Berlin, was not just an illiterate, insignificant Pole but their commander-in-chief, Rydz-Smigly, who at present resides in Rumania. [...]"

4. Numbers announced by the Germans in 1944 (in their report from 30.08.1944):

16343 KIA - (number announced by the Germans in 1944)
320 MIA - (number announced by the Germans in 1944)
27640 WIA - (number announced by the Germans in 1944)

5. Numbers from Polish book "Wojna Obronna" (pages 850 - 851) - was using the German internal daily casualty reports of each army to create its casualty list - which calculates casualties suffered by each army in period 01.09.1939 - 30.09.1939:

4. Army (without casualties of the XIX Corps for the whole campaign):

989 KIA (including 68 officers)
340 MIA (3 officers)
2258 WIA (113 officers)
383 sick

Casualties of units which were fighting in the Coastal Region (all of them or at least some of them) - are probably not included above.

3. Army:

1985 KIA (including 101 officers)
620 MIA (14 officers)
4768 WIA (154 officers)
691 sick

8. Army:

1892 KIA (103 officers)
According to "Wojna Obronna" number of MIA from 8. Army is unknown (but the first source quoted above - figures from panzerworld.net - list the number of MIA for 8. Army reported by the 24.09 as 4390 and the number of KIA as 974 - so we can assume that the number of MIA in this data should be (4390 + 974) - 1892 = 5364 - 1892 = 3472)
5840 WIA (176 officers)
983 sick

It is possible that casualties of some divisions which were subordinated to 8. Army during later stages of the campaign, are also included here.

10. Army:

1636 KIA (90 officers)
871 MIA (8 officers)
13096 WIA (189 officers)
3088 sick

Low number of KIA and MIA - if comparing with the number of WIA - is strange in 10. Army. Maybe those who died of wounds were not reported as KIA and are still included here as WIA? The number of KIA + MIA itself also seems to be too low (I come to such a conclusion basing on data which is reffering to casualties of some of divisions from this army). The number of WIA is very high if comparing with the numbers of KIA and MIA.

14. Army:

2105 KIA (number of officers is not provided)
1337 MIA (number of officers is not provided)
7767 WIA (number of officers is not provided)
6159 sick

It is very probable that casualties of some divisions / other units of this army are not included here (especcialy those documents of which - including almost all casualty accounts - were destroyed during the war and did not survive).

Total numbers from armies listed above (only Heer casualties):

KIA + MIA (killed) = 15247 (if including the number of MIA from 8. Army as 3472) - including 387 officers (without those from 14. Army and MIA from 8. Army - according to panzerworld.net 8. Army reported 39 MIA officers by 24.09.1939)
WIA = 33729 - including 632 officers without those from 14. Army.
Sick = 11304

To the number above we must add casualties of:

1. XIX Corps of Guderian:

Battle for the Corridor 1. - 4. September:

Around 150 KIA + around 700 WIA (or maybe WIA and MIA ?) + unknown (?) number of MIA (?)

Further combats:

Around 650 KIA + 241 MIA + 1245 WIA

2. Casualties of units which were fighting in the Coastal region.

Polish casualties in the coastal region are usually given as:

107 KIA and MIA officers
2143 KIA and MIA soldiers and NCOs

86 WIA officers
2144 WIA soldiers and NCOs

3. Casualties of units which were not parts of any army (so - for example - Army Groups' reserves).

------------------------------------------------------

And here casualties of OKL (Oberkommando der Luftwaffe) according to "Wojna Obronna":

Killed / Missing / Wounded (including number of officers):

386(60)/163(65)/407(46)

Total: 956 (including 171 officers)

According to Tadeusz Jurga - "Obrona Polski 1939" - Luftwaffe lost:

Killed: 326, 60 officers
Wounded: 361, 65 officers
Missing: 98, 16 officers

Total: 785, 141 officers

According to Hahn casualties of Luftwaffe in September 1939 were initially reported as:

Killed - 283 (46 officers)
Wounded - 242 (46 officers)
Missing - 234 (38 officers)

Total: 759 (130 officers)

------------------------------------------------------

PS:

I know that some of sources and figures listed above are not specifying casualties of officers from the overall casualties, but I quoted them just to compare with those sources which specify casualties of officers from the numbers of overall casualties (we can estimate percent of officer casualties from those figures which do not provide the number of officer losses - or maybe somebody will find such figures for those datas).
And here one more figure:

Officer casualties of Army Group "South" according to Erich von Manstein, "Lost victories" (page 61):

KIA - 6,554 (including 505 officers)
MIA (all dead) - 4,064 (including 42 officers)
WIA - 20,478 (including 759 officers)

OK.
I have added extra infos and made some amendmends to the letters A-G (Alt-Stutterheim, Blank, Dreihausen/Dreyhausen, Funck, Grün). An officer called Eberhard did not pop up so far. I will try further.

As regards v. Prittwitz I guess he was only WIA, as listed by the H. Gru. Nord and not KIA. I have consulted the Genealogisches Handbuch des Adels listing all family members. I found a distressing long list of KIA soldiers of the family: Gen. Lt. Heinrich v. Prittwitz und Gaffron (10.04.1941, Africa as CO 15. Panzer-Division), Friedrich-Wilhelm (01.12.1941, Russia), Siegfried (24.04.1945 as Lt. of the US-Army in Schnabelwaid/Oberfranken!), Hans-Erdmann (11.07.1941, Russia), Wilhelm (31.08.1942, Russia), Erdmann (20.03.1945 in Soviet captivity), Hans-Jürgen (Oct. 1945 in Soviet captivity), Bernhard "Bernd" - the Ritterkreuz recipient (25.04.1944, Russia), Hans-Eberhard (08.06.1944, Tilly near Caen), Wilhelm (Autumn 1943, missed in the Northern Eismeer as Lt. z. See), Hans-Henning (04.03.1944 "abgestürzt", Italy), Gunther (25.03.1945, Danzig) and the earliest of all Dr. jur. Gunter (08.06.1940, Western Europe). Some others however survived, including the General Staff Oberst.

Btw, Stauffenberg - have you noticed that there are quite big and rather evident contradictions between different German figures referring to casualties of officers, which I quoted above ???

Regarding your list - so far there are a lot of KIA, DoW - in general "absolut" losses - officers from Army Group "North", and almost none from Army Group "South" - this is very strange, as casualties of Army Group "South" according to most figures were around twice as high as casualties of Army Group "North". And according to Erich von Manstein - figure from his book (page 61), quoted by me above - his army group lost 550 dead officers.

What are the reasons of this?
As regards v. Prittwitz I guess he was only WIA, as listed by the H. Gru. Nord and not KIA. I have consulted the Genealogisches Handbuch des Adels listing all family members. I found a distressing long list of KIA soldiers of the family:
Have you found anything on his potential (if he really didn't die) further career / life?

--------------------------------------------

Edit:

Btw - some complements to your list:
Dr. Heesch Hermann, 24.10.1893, Hptm. d. R., -, -, 25.09.1939, VB
According to ww2 day by day Olt. (???) Heesch was the commander of 10.Kp from III. battalion / IR.73 (19. Infanterie-Division) - KIA in the night 25./26.Sept.39 during attack on Fort IIa in Warsaw.
Haupt Alfred, 28.09.1898, Oblt., -, -, 01.09.1939, VB
According to my sources Hauptmann (not Oblt.) Haupt was the commander of 6.Kp from II./Inf.Rgt.73 (19. Infanterie-Division) - and he was KIA on 1.Sept.39 at Napoleon (combats against Polish Army "Łódź").
Haarberg Adolf, 07.08.1885, Obstlt., -, -, 14.10.1939 (Feldlaz.), VB
He was KIA near Radzyń Podlaski (not far away from Kock - where the last battle of the campaign took place).

Some small Polish units of SGO "Polesie" of general Kleeberg did not surrender but were resisting in the forests around Kock - Serokomla and Radzyń Podlaski until 14.10.1939.

So he is certainly among the last KIA Germans in this campaign.

Nice discovery ;).
Hilliger Gerhard Max, 24.09.1911, Oblt. d. R., -, -, 09.09.1939, VB
Hoffmann Günter (Gunter), 28.01.1914, Lt. d. R., -, -, 27.09.1939, VB
And what about him:

- Oberstlt. Hoehne - commander of I.Battalion / Inf.Rgt.73 (19. Infanterie-Division) - WIA 1.Sept.39 at Napoleon by artillery fire; he dies from these wounds at the transport back (during the same day - 01.09.1939).

By the way - I have got the list of KIA and WIA of this battalion (it includes also officers - giving their surnames and ranks) during the Polish Campaign (according to this list it lost 51 KIA, 110 WIA - some of WIA later died of wounds; breakdown of these losses is the following: Stab - 2 KIA, 3 WIA, 1. company - 24 KIA, 42 WIA, 2. company - 9 KIA, 31 WIA, 3. company - 12 KIA, 20 WIA, 4. company - 4 KIA, 14 WIA. On 29th of August 1939 the battalion had got 816 men - Stab: 69 men, 1., 2., 3. companies - 190 men each, 4. company - 177 men).
Hesse Siegfried, 03.08.1916, Lt. d. R., -, -, 09.09.1939, VB
And what about him?:

Bat. Arzt: Stabsarzt Dr. Hesse - Infanterie-Regiment 38. - III battalion (KIA on 18.09.1939).
Greifeneder Matthias, 05.08.1898, Maj., -, -, 19.09.1939, VB
Is he the same man?:

- Major Greifeneder – cmdr. of 12. company III battalion / Infanterie-Regiment 131. – KIA middle September 1939.
Jost Franz, 27.05.1915, Lt., -, -, 17.09.1939, VB
Stauffenberg, awesome discovery :D !!:

According to the description on the reverse of this photo, Leutnant Jost was serving inside this tank and he was KIA (it is the tank of the commander of I. battalion of Panzer-Regiment 1. from 1. Panzer-Division - Major Koppenburg):

Image

Of course this Panzer IV was destroyed during the battle of Kiernozia (16.09.1939 - 17.09.1939 and a couple of days forward)

You did realise that we only have one primary source, namely the listing of H. Gru. Nord?

As we don´t have a listing for H. Gru. Süd, which for sure had higher losses as it included the main battle force, my listing includes all/almost all losses of Army Group North but only this part of the Army Group South losses, discovered by reliable sources (for example Volksbund or GHdA). My intention was not to include any officer in the listing, for which there is no proven evidence to be included. If we would not obey these rules we would report officers KIA in 1939, which were not actually KIA in 1939 (for example Krawutschke or Rittau earlier in this thread) ... and this would be disgusting.

Jürgen - I have just edited my post - look what I have written about Leutnant Jost ;).
You did realise that we only have one primary source, namely the listing of H. Gru. Nord?
Now I realise this - but before you wrote this, I didn't - thanks for the info ;).
We already had this stories. Rittau was KIA in 1942. There was no Oberst Fischer in the area of H. Gru. Nord KIA in 1939 (according to the list) and Krawutschke was still alive as per as Keilig´s Rangliste 1944 and was not listed in the H. Gru. Nord list of losses in 1939. So all wrong.
If we would not obey these rules we would report officers KIA in 1939, which were not actually KIA in 1939 (for example Krawutschke or Rittau earlier in this thread)
If it comes to Krawutschke, Rittau and a few more of them, I have already marked and written it very clearly:
I made a chronological list of those KIA high ranking officers who have been already mentioned in this thread (although I included also those who were not verified or confirmed in German sources - there were a few of them - I suppose that finding and removing those few will take too much time for me so I'm going to post the whole list of those who were mentioned):
So now you know the reason why I repeated listing them in my chronological list on page No. 8 of this topic.

But if it comes to - for example - him (and similar cases):
According to the officers listing of IIa H. Gru. A v. Prittwitz was only WIA not KIA. So a further removal from the list.
At least three sources (including Heinz Guderian himself) confirm that he died of these wounds, so I suppose that it is rather your officers listing that is mistaken, but I'm not going to foregone it, at least now, without any further informations on him.
my listing includes all/almost all losses of Army Group North
Good that you wrote "all/ almost all", instead of "all".

And - by the way - please check Oberstleutnant Hoehne - commander of I. battalion / Inf.Rgt.73 (19. Infanterie-Division) - once again, because I am even more than pretty shure that he Died of Wounds on 1st of September 1939 (as I said - I have got a list of killed and wounded of this particular battalion - and the information about his death is also confirmed in several other sources - including "Geschichte der niedersächsischen 19. Panzer-Division 1939 - 1945" by Otto von Knobelsdorff).

Regards,
Peter

Peter,

again: I only have the H. Gru. Nord official listing and the Volksbund site as reliable sources. Guderian´s book, written many years after the war, is a good reading but he also wrote that Gen. Frhr. v. Funck lost a son ... what is not true according to GHdA.

I did not found Höhne/Hoehne too.

Suggestion: I have done a list containing IIa H. Gru. Nord and Volksbund data. You can do a list per alphabetical order of all officers not listed in my list and then we have an extra listing and can review for merging the data. But please ... as I have done above, please strictly give the reference for example:

Hoehne, -, Obstlt., Kdr. I./I. R. 73, 19. Div., 01.09.1939, von Knobelsdorff Otto: Geschichte der niedersächs. 19. Pz. Div., S. 12

Ok?
