Photo of Priekschat here:

http://www.fjr6.net/history_b.html

Killed (grave unknown)Carentan 8th June 1944.

His battalion.I/FJR6,was decimated as well.

http://www.wehrmacht-awards.com/forums/ ... p?t=232682

I.FJR6 reached Saint Marie-du-Mont (a town approximately 4 miles northeast of Saint Come-du-Mont), while II.FJR6 reached the outskirts of Saint Mere-Egliese. Col. Von der Heydte realized the great size of the Allied paratrooper and beach landings and decided that it would be futile to attack Saint Mere-Egliese. As a result, on the night of June 6/7, he ordered I.FJR6 and II.FJR6 back to Carentan to prepare defensive positions. I.FJR6 does not appear to have received such order, so when it finally began withdrawing south towards Carentan (in the morning of June 7th), US paratroopers had strengthened their positions south of them. Approximately 300 members of I.FJR6 approached the positions of about 100 US paras from 3/506th PIR. The US paras responded aggressively and inflicted about 40 FJ KIAs. Thinking that they were heavily outnumbered by the US paratroopers, many of the FJs surrendered, eventually totalling 255 POWs.

The remaining 500 FJs of I.FJR6 approached positions held by about 250 US paras who were about 1 mile north of Carentan, in a small town known as La Barquette. I.FJR6 did not realize that the US paras were in the area and walked into an ambush and suffered about 150 KIAs. Again, thinking that they were heavily outnumbered, about 350 members of I.FJR6 surrendered. I believe that only about 25 FJs from I.FJR6 made it back to Carentan.

Hi Peter !..
Thanks for the links !..
I know the history of FJR.6 in Normandie, and my research is now more about Priekschat when he was Leutnant in the Lehr-bataillon in the XI.Flieger-korps in 1941 (photo), and his what he did in 1942/43 !.. :)

Lo

From Eric Queen's Red Shines the Sun: A Pictorial History of the Fallschirm-Infanterie.

Emil Preikschat tours Eban Emael May 1940.
