I'm sorry to say that that man is not Oberleutnant Kayser...

It's been a widespread mistake to identify the man reporting von der Heydte as being von Kayser. A short time ago, I could contact some relatives of this Kriegsberichter and they told me for sure -after watching the photo commented above- that that man wasn't von Kayser. Attached is a photo of the real guy. This photo also appears in Davies' "Uniforms and insignia of the Luftwaffe" Volume 2, page 72. He was wounded during the war and, as a consequence, it's visible a scar on the left side of his face. By wachting the film recorded during the Gran Sasso operation, one can see von Kayser (just few seconds, wearing his camera) with that scar...
Best regards. Óscar

I appreciate that this thread is 9 years old and may be closed; therefore I am taking to myself. I am the one who claimed the photo featured VK based on the fact it was written on the reverse by a veteran. I never followed it up but I did send the photo to different FJ Kameradschaft and the common answer was...never seen it. It's an interesting photo and of course 16 years ago it appeared to be unique. Now I have seen it twice in the past few weeks. I would be interested in any further thought on the photo now that the case.of VK is closed.
