v. Hünersdorff was shot in the head by a sniper while traveling between his units. A brain surgeon was flown in to try to save him but he could not, the General died three days later in a field hospital near Kharkov, where his wife happened to be serving as a volunteer nurse. General Zorn was also shot and killed while traveling between his units' positions only he was attacked by ground attack aircraft.

Shortly after the ceased battle of Kursk GL Gustav Schmidt, Div. Kdr. 19. Panzer-Division, was KIA 07.08.1943 in Beresowka together with his GS officer (Ia), Obstlt. i. G. Werner von Unger. They were surprisingly surrounded by Soviet troops whilst travelling around.

Were Schmidt & v. Unger KIA or did they commit suicide?
