Generalmajor Otto Schiel
Generalmajor Otto Schiel
Could anyone confirm from the photo if this is in fact Generalmajor Otto Ernst Schiel, as written on the reverse? The date given doesnt match, as he was promoted to Oberstleutnant in 1938
Of course theres a lot of info available on Schiel, I just want to know if this is in fact him
Any feedback appreciated

Re: Generalmajor Otto Schiel
You have my vote that's him.
I have spent way too much time agonizing over captions on the back of pics (and pestering Dieter and his Misses ). From my experince, you are lucky if you have a little more clue than "unser General". Bear in mind it could be anyone captioning the pic, including the grunt who barely could figure out the spelling of his general, let alone chronology. And the generic seller of photos has a less than basic knowledge of Wehrmacht officers.
Only thing I have of him as Kdr. 198. Div. and I think it is a match
Cheers

Thanks very much for that. I think its him.
Interesting to see this pic, probably from around the time the 198. ID was involved in the razing of Geradmer, Nov. 1944. 86% of the village was burned.

Hello,
According to Stellenbesetzungen of 15.10.35 and 06.10.36, Schiel serve in Stab 9. Div., Stab 34. Div. then Stab 15. Div. Lexikon gives we was from 01.07.36 Transport-Verbindungs-Offizier der 34. Div., but nothing about his assignments at 9. and 15. Div. Did he held the same position like for 34. Div. ?
Regards
Rudolf
