Request for Identification of Generals and Admirals

Post by VJK » 11 Jan 2003 18:46

Hi!

I have 3 more pics to which I would like to put names - can anyone help?
The first is a RKT, the second a Generalleutnant, Divisional commander in Italy in May, 1944 and as for the third - who is he and what is the award around his neck?

Your help would be much appreciated.

Regards,

VJK

The first one, the RKT, is Ferdinand Schaal.

Many thanks Jeff!

I thought that the face was familiar, but just couldn't put a name to it. In retrospect of course (as always!) it's obvious. Thanks again.

Hi VJK,
I'm sorry I don't know who the third officer is but it looks as though he is wearing the Grand Comanders badge of the house of Hohenzollern, the ruling family of Prussia, then Germany until 1918. It still is awarded by them on their own authority.

Thanks TK for the info on the award, it may help to pin down his identity.

All the best,

VJK

Also looks like he has on his ribbon bar the EK, the Honour Cross for war veterans with swords a long service award and another ribbon with a device that might be another prussian order..? Very hard to see all of the ribbon bar clearly, is it clearer in the original photo..?

Hi Matt!

I've tried to blow-up the ribbon bar, though the result is less than perfect. Perhaps it may help though?

I'll try again with the blown-up version this time. Sorry about that!

I know this picture from one of my books, unfortuneally without names.
But I guess it's Borrmann second from the left and right from him Presschef Dittrich, Hitler of course, and than v Brauchitsch.
The nearest General is v Schoberth.

I wont swear that it is not von Kleist, but I do not it looks like him. Sadly I have no information at all about the picture : circumstances, place or date. I was just hoping that some of you might recognise him.

It's Rommel. I have that same picture in a biography of him.
