I have the identical foto, but in the form of a postcard. On the back somebody wrote it was Gen.Lt.Walter Schwabedissen. I guess they were wrong, so I would really like to know WHO it is! At least they had Axthelm right. :D

Hi,

The Axthelm photo has the annotation "General mit Chef des Stabes". Assuming that the pic doesn't refer to his time as commander of the 1. Flak-Brigade, Axthelm commanded the I Flakkorps from March 1941 - December 1941, his Chief of Staff during that period was Oberst Erich Groepler.

Kind regards,

VJK

Am I misinformed, (happens all the time!) or doesn't the fact he is wearing striped pants mean he is a General? I guess his stripes could be red, they are definitely a different color than Axthelm's. Incidentally, Erich Gröpler was an OberstLeutnant. he lived 1906-1999

The officers of the Generalstab had also striped pants (in red), see for example here:

Even though the position of #3 in the picture is not the best one, he doesn´t look like Bruno BIELER to me.
Cheers.

The youtube video "The surrender of Berlin" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VX-gksUuBfM shows the convoy of cars where general WEIDLING and other generals were taken for a drive through the ruins of Berlin.
On the first car, an american jeep, we can see WEIDLING and his artillery chief Oberst WÖHLERMANN. On the second car, a german kübelwagen, we see four generals, one of them is the generalarzt der Polizei Emil WROBEL. The other three are unknown to me: One is a Heer generalarzt, since he can be seen in other scenes of the documentary with a red cross armband (Could he be Generalarzt Walter SCHREIBER?) ; another wears an uniform unknown to me and the third one is a Heer general.
Finally, on the third car, an american jeep, travel Gen.Lt. WOYTASCH and Gen.Maj. Walther BREHMER, stadtkdt. Berlin.
Here are attached the clearest cuts of the three unknown generals.
Any idea about their ID´s?

Hallo miocid,

I think te Generalarzt with "Rotkreuz"-brassard in Berlin is indeed
Prof. Dr. med. habil. Walter Emil Wilhelm Paul Schreiber, * 21.03.1893 Berlin
† 05.09.1970 San Carlos de Bariloche, Rio Negro, Argentinien.
He was apointed to “Feldstandortarzt Berlin“ (also “Festungsarzt Berlin“) in April 1945. He established a field hospital in the bunker of the Reichskanzlei [24.04. - 30.04.1945 about 350 operations].
30.05.1945 the Red Army is reaching the bunker, where he came in captivity.
