Request for Identification of Generals and Admirals
Re: Request for Identification of Generals and Admirals
Hello
I read "Barth". If so it must be Otto Barth, but he became Gen.Maj. only in nov. 44 (in dec. 42 he was still Ob. and this matches with his collar insignia in the photos, which are not those of a General like wrongly written in the photos…..)

Re: Request for Identification of Generals and Admirals
Thanks Glenn
I admit my ignorance with uniforms. I don' t know the difference between a general in the mil. admin. and a general in the TSD (I' d be curious to see both uniforms…………). But maybe he (in photo) still wore the uniform of a Gen. in the mil. admin. (being a Gen.Richter…….) ???

Re: Request for Identification of Generals and Admirals
Hi Rossano,
the basic difference is the style of collar patch. Military officials with the equivalence of general officer's rank wore the the patches as in the picture captured as "General Mantel", that is dark green piped in red. General officers of the judicial branch of the TSD worn normal pattern general officers' patches but in a base colour of wine red. Ernst Mantel entered the TSB as an officer in the rank of Oberstrichter in 1944 from his previous status as a military judicial official. Therefore he was already an officer and not an official when promoted to General officer rank.
Regards
Glenn

Many thanks Glenn

P.S.: it remains the question, who is then the general of the administration above, if not Mantel ? Did a "Mantell" (or similar) really exhist or is that a fully wrong name in the caption ???

Re: Request for Identification of Generals and Admirals
Here's one that might be a bit tricky, as I'm not 100 % sure he even has general's collar patches. Looks like it under strong magnification, though. Anyway, the location appears to be AG Mitte or Süd area of operations, 1941 or '42. Any takers?

Comparing him to the pic back on page 446 in this thread, I believe you are right. Thanks!

Hi all, any idea who this might be? Is he a Generalmajor or a Major? Thanks,
