@23: It's there for everyone to read! General Tschoeltsch and General Schulz.
There are times in history when staying neutral means taking sides.

Well, I don't see them either, because the generals are holding their saluting arms just in front of their faces! But I assume the person who signed the photo knew what he was talking about. Maybe you could help us and identify which Schulz it is?

@50 Looks like Generalleutnant Baptist Kniess as commander of 215. Infanterie-Division, with his commanding officer Generaloberst Georg von Küchler (Oberbefehlshaber 18. Armee)

I thought so, but the trouble is ... Schulz spent the majority of the war in Finland. When he became Inspekteur des Erziehungs- und Ausbildungswesens der Luftwaffe, he was indeed Tschoeltsch's superior for a few weeks. But if the dates in Hildebrand are correct, the
Hitlergruß was already used during this time.
