Hi, Jeremy.

The general of your pic is Hans Zorn. And, by the way, behind him is Erich Jaschke.

Cheers.

Crüwell was Kmdr of 11 Pz and the most junior of the lot and the clip looks like a visit to units of 11 Pz. From the profile we can rule out v Schimmelmann Kmdr II/PzRgt 15.

Elwyn, my initial version was Riebel, he was a frequent companion of Crüwell, but he only Oberstleutnant in this time. Or maybe I made a mistake with definition of rank on the video...?

Best wishes

Hi, Ruslan.

One of the generals (at left) of your picture is Otto-Wilhelm Förster (General der Pioniere).

By the way, if you think you made a mistake with definition of rank on the video, maybe you should consider the possibility that the man was Rudolf Veiel.

All the best for you.

Can anyone identify these Generals/officers?

Post by Robert Forsyth » 24 Nov 2011 20:03

Wondered whether any Heer experts might be able to identify these senior officers and their positions ca Mar-Dec 1942? To the best of my knowledge, both photos were taken in Russia.

Very many thanks,

Robert Forsyth

Hi, Robert.

Here you have:

- Generals1: Hans Speth (left) and Erik-Oskar Hansen (right).
- Generals2: Erik-Oskar Hansen (left) and maybe Richard Ruoff (right).

Cheers.

In what Ruslan posted as a video clip I see two pips. So either an Obst - which rules out Riebel as he was ObstLt then in the Balkan campaign (my pics of him are beyond lousy) (but that was a damn good effort Ruslan :D !!) or a full Gen - which rules out Veiel as he was GenLt then.

The real "proof" comes from the fact that our man in the video was pretty tall. List and v. Wietersheim were strapping tall. Crüwell was not shabby. Look at Veiel during Anschluss with List and Materna. He was one of the shortest generals in the Wehrmacht.

Many thanks for your replies, guys! I had hoped that you may have seen this meeting in photomaterials or books before. Anyway it's not good quality video and not so important person, to spend your effort on it! :milwink:

Good work, Gregg! If this Förster then man on the right had some similarities with Helge Auleb, I have no examples where he wears glasses, but many generals uses them only for maps and paper work.

Best wishes

I second Helge Auleb as Kmdr 6 ID and Otto Wilhelm Förster as Kmdr VI Korps.
